She has been referred to as the “OG Badass”, and over the course of her two decades competing inside the squared circle, Mercedes Martinez has absolutely earned that moniker. From her first steps into a wrestling ring in 2002 to her first appearances in Ring of Honor back in 2006, Mercedes has consistently brought the fight to whomever was standing across the ring, and she has fought everyone of note in the last 20 years.
Be it Mickie James, former ROH Women of Honor Champion Sumie Sakai, Athena, Saraya, Sara Del Rey, Dr. Britt Baker, Serena Deeb, or Thunder Rosa, Mercedes has faced them all during her wrestling career, and even thrown down with men like Eddie Kingston and the legendary “Notorious 187” Homicide. She has traversed the United States, as well as competed in Japan, the United Kingdom, and Australia, and it all eventually brought Mercedes to the ROH Women's World Championship.
Initially she reigned as the Interim Champion after defeating Willow Nightingale at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2022, but after beating Deonna Purrazzo on the May 4th edition of AEW DYNAMITE, Mercedes Martinez claimed Undisputed status as the ROH Women's World Champion. From that day forward, “The OG Badass” put her title on the line against any woman willing to step up to the challenge, be it on AEW DARK, AEW DARK: ELEVATION, or at DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR 2022 against Serena Deeb, Mercedes has not turned away any challenge.
