His name is CM Punk, he’s Straight Edge and that means he’s better than you. When Punk made that bold assertion in 2003 several months after his Ring of Honor debut, he instantly became one of the most compelling and controversial competitors in the sport, in addition to being one of the best wrestlers in the world. That year, Punk engaged in a heated rivalry with Raven that still is regarded as one of the greatest feuds in ROH history. In 2004, Punk teamed with Colt Cabana as The Second City Saints, and the duo won the ROH World Tag Team Titles on two occasions.
Punk also wrestled ROH World Champion Samoa Joe in a classic three-match series. They wrestled to two 60-minute draws before Joe prevailed in their final meeting. Punk went on to win the title from Austin Aries in June 2005 even though Punk had already accepted a deal from WWE. In what became known as the “Summer of Punk,” he repeatedly threatened to take the ROH World Title with him to WWE before losing it that August.
