Mark Briscoe(c) vs. Griff Garrison (w/Cole Karter & Maria) ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe may his mind fixed on the impending Trios match against The House of Black this Sunday night at DYNASTY 2024 but that doesn't mean he's taking any focus of the ROH World Championship. In fact this Thursday night on Honor Club, Mark is welcoming Griff Garrison onto the Proving Ground for the young man's first solo test. Back in September, during ROH ON HONOR CLUB #28, he joined with Gravity and Metalik to try and earn a ROH World Six-Man Title fight against The Mogul Embassy, but they failed in that quest in under five minutes. Many moons ago, at ROH: THE EXPERIENCE 2019, Griff and his then-partner Marcus Kross actually faced Jay and Mark in a ROH World Tag Team Championship bout, dropping the bout in just over eight minutes, but this is the closest Garrison has ever come to a ROH singles title match and he does not want to let it slip away! Between his previous experience with Mark, the knowledge Maria has about The Briscoes from her experience leading The Kingdom against them, and the potential of some outside help from Cole Karter, Griff Garrison has a fighting chance to parlay his first solo Proving Ground effort into his first ROH singles championship fight. Survive the time limit or beat the champ; that's all Griff has to do and a ROH World Title match will be his! So much easier to say than to accomplish... SINGLES BOUT... “Big Shotty” Lee Johnson vs. JD Drake “Big Shotty” Lee Johnson took a huge step forward in his professional wrestling career at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2024. Unfortunately it wasn't as a result of defeating Kyle Fletcher for the ROH World Television Championship, but rather because he proved to all the eyes fixed on ROH's marquee event that he can run with the top dogs in the pack. Lee knew he had what it took to hang in there with Kyle, he knew he could push the Don Callis Family member into deep waters, and “Big Shotty” took Fletcher nearly to the twenty minute mark before the defending champion figured out a way to defeat his challenger. It wasn't a title victory, but it was a moral one for Lee Johnson, one that gave him an inkling of what being a champion is all about, and now he wants the full experience! With that in mind, Lee gets right back to the grind this Thursday night when he goes head-to-head with the hard-hitting JD Drake in singles competition! There is a new Ring of Honor World Champion in the house and his name is Mark Briscoe! For the first time in the history of ROH, “Chicken” has claimed a singles championship to go along with the thirteen ROH World Tag Titles and one ROH World Six-Man Championship reign on his resume, and he aims to carry that title with the same respect, with the same honor, that his predecessor Eddie Kingston did during his reign. He has Ring of Honor flowing through his veins, and has wanted nothing more than to reclaim the ROH World TV Title ever since Minoru Suzuki defeated him for it at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2022. Rhett unsuccessfully took a crack at Samoa Joe, the man who dethroned Suzuki, last October on COLLISION, and after competing at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2024: ZERO HOUR last Friday night, he's itching to get back to the place where it all began. But just because Titus has a lengthy history with Ring of Honor doesn't mean he can slide right back into a championship match, he's got to earn it the hard way, and that means stepping onto the Proving Ground to earn a World Television Championship match! It's not Rhett's first time competing in a Proving Ground match, in fact The All Night Express were the first people to ever win a Proving Ground match, earning a World Tag Team Championship bout by beating Charlie Hass & Shelton Benjamin, though the eventual title fight did not go their way. The other two PG matches on Titus' resume, one a tag and the other a Four Corner Survival, did to not go in his favor, but this marks his first one-on-one match under these stipulations, so that means Rhett can either last the time limit with Kyle Fletcher, or defeat the champion, and a future World TV Title match will be his! Fletcher is coming off quite an impressive victory over Lee Johnson at SUPERCARD 2024 (www.watchroh.com), one that Titus was no doubt watching with a very close eye, and is dead set on going down in history as the greatest TV Champion of all-time. Having been an integral part of ROH since THE ERA OF HONOR BEGINS, and one of the landscape shaping forces in independent wrestling, Christopher Daniels has taken on every challenge before him, battled everyone who's ever stepped inside the ROH ring, and though it took him a few years to come around to it, to this day he continues to fight for a code of honor. One of the people that has stepped to Daniels in the recent past is Cole Karter; in fact just over a year ago, on the 3/6/23 edition of DARK: ELEVATION, “The Fallen Angel” defeated Cole Karter in singles competition, and then proceeded to do the same during ROH ON HONOR CLUB #12 in tag team combat. In all fairness to Karter, it was a random partnership with Zack Clayton rather than the man who has become his tag partner Griff Garrison and it was before he came under the guidance of Maria, but it's still a second loss in the books where Christopher Daniels is concerned, and something he's longing to redeem. So this Thursday night Cole Karter will have his opportunity when he goes one-on-one with the former ROH World Champion during an all-new ROH ON HONOR CLUB! ROH Supercard of Honor 2024 Results CONTAINS SPOILERS ROH: Supercard of Honor was broadcast live on HonorClub on April 5th, 2024, from The Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA! The event began with the ROH: Zero Hour preshow kicking things off on the official ROH YouTube Channel! Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman were the commentary team for Zero Hour. The Premier Athletes—Tony Nese, Ari Daivari & Josh Woods (with “Smart” Mark Sterling) vs. Tony Deppen, Rhett Titus, & Adam Priest! Nese and Daivari double teamed Deppen in the corner. Priest tagged in but Woods and Ari used tandem offense on Priest. Rhett grabbed a tag, but Woods reversed Rhett’s belly-to-belly suplex with one of his own. Woods hurled Priest around the ring with suplexes. Deppen slugged it out with Ari outside the ring. Woods pulled Deppen into the ring with a vertical suplex while Nese and Ari jumped off the top turnbuckles with double fists to Deppen’s head. Nese scored the pin on Deppen with a sensational victory for the realigned Premier Athletes! The Beast Mortos vs. “All Heart” Blake Christian! Blake was sticking and moving, taking it to the Beast Mortos. Finally, the Beast Mortos had enough and walloped Blake with a heavy hit. The Beast Mortos turned Blake inside out with a lariat. Christian stopped the Beast with a swift kick to the back of the head, following up with a DDT off the turnbuckles. Blake Christian hit a spear on the ring apron, and then drove the skull of the Beast onto the ramp with a DDT! Blake splashed the Beast Mortos with a springboard 450 for a near fall. The Beast Mortos power press slammed Blake off the top rope and then finished off Blake with a pump handle piledriver for the pin! Alex Abrahantes and Komander walked onto the stage and applauded the Beast Mortos for his efforts. Cole Karter & Griff Garrison (with Maria) vs. Angelico & Serpentico! Cole and Griff ambushed Angelico and Serpentico with cheap shots. Serpentico retaliated with a tope suicida to Cole and Griff. Angelico used Cole as a launching pad and then jumped onto Griff with a splash in the corner. The match went back and forth. Serpentico rocked Cole and Griff with double flatliners. Maria jumped into the ring with a steel chair, but ref Mike Posey saw her and ejected her! Maria was trying to lure Angelico out of the ring with the mask she had from Serpentico. As Angelico was walking out onto the ramp, Griff snuck up and swept out his legs! Back in the ring, Serpentico cradled Cole with an O’Connor roll, but Cole kicked out. The momentum from the kick out forced Serpentico toward the ropes. Griff was hiding outside the ring and managed to pull the mask off Serpentico’s head. As Serpentico was trying to hide his identity, Cole grabbed Serpentico by the tights and pinned him! “Two masks now in the hands of Cole and Griff,” said Caprice. Mariah May vs. Momo Kohgo! Momo hit a high cross body and followed up with a dropkick. Mariah battered Momo in the back and then dropkicked Momo as Momo was caught up in the ring ropes. Mariah blasted Momo with a shotgun dropkick. Momo rallied back with forearm strikes to Mariah May. Momo planted Mariah with a satellite DDT for a near fall. Mariah walloped Momo with a high angle suplex. Mariah smashed Momo with the It’s Gonna Be May knee strike and pinned Momo. Former Ring of Honor World Champion Nigel McGuinness joined the broadcast booth for the main portion of Supercard of Honor. ROH World TV Championship Match! Kyle Fletcher (c.) vs. “Big Shotty” Lee Johnson! Fletcher ignored the Code of Honor, kicking Johnson’s hand away. Fletcher drove his shoulder into the chest of Johnson. Big Shotty rattled the champ with a big dropkick. Johnson chopped Fletcher in the chest. Fletcher used his power and planted Lee onto the mat. Fletcher smashed an elbow into Johnson’s face as Johnson ran off the ropes. Lee Johnson took a leap of faith, diving over the top rope and landing onto Fletcher on the arena floor. Fletcher nailed Johnson with a brain buster on the barricade! Fletcher catapulted off a steel chair and flipped over the barricade onto Johnson! Fletcher hit a double underhook suplex on Johnson for a two-count. Lee rallied back with a neck breaker, a PK, and then a standing moonsault onto Fletcher for a near fall. Johnson took a page out of Christopher Daniels’ playbook with a blue thunder bomb. Fletcher rocked Johnson with a Falcon Arrow off the second turnbuckle. Fletcher hit a massive power bomb on Johnson but somehow Johnson kicked out at the two-count. Fletcher went for a tombstone piledriver on the apron, but Lee reversed it and countered it with the Big Shot. Fletcher found the piledriver, but Lee kicked out! Johnson used a Super Shotty Destroyer and then a frog splash on Fletcher for a two-count! “We are in for a classic!” said Nigel. The fans chanted “This is awesome! This is awesome!” Fletcher hit a twisting brain buster from the top and it was lights out for Lee Johnson, with Fletcher victorious! Fletcher showed respect to Lee Johnson after the match, shaking Lee’s hand. Stardom Women’s Trios Match! Queen’s Quest (AZM & Saya Kamitani) & Tam Nakano vs. Empress Nexus Venus (World of Stardom Champion Maika & Mina Shirakawa) & Mei Seira! Seira hit a big thrust kick on Nakano. Maika tagged in but Nakano caught her with a knee strike. AZM grabbed a tag and blasted Maika with a shotgun dropkick. She applied the Rings of Saturn, but Maika powered out. Maika showed her strength, throwing AZM overhead with a backwards slam. Saya used a spin wheel kick on Mina. Saya hit a bridging suplex on Shirakawa for a near fall. Shirakawa applied a figure four on Kamitani. AZM jumped in to break up the submission. Shirakawa drilled Kamitani with a big time forearm. Kamitani almost scored the pin with a hurracanrana. Kamitani showed off her Bushido fighting spirit, but Shirakawa planted her hard for the three-count! After the match, Mariah May came down to the ring! Mariah picked up Shirakawa and helped her celebrate, giving Shirakawa and her partners champagne. ROH World Tag Team Championship Match! The Undisputed Kingdom—Matt Taven & Mike Bennett vs. The Infantry—Capt. Shawn Dean & Carlie Bravo (with Trish Adora)! Dean flew over the top rope, crashing onto the champs. Taven one-upped them, jumping over the ropes and onto the Infantry on the ramp. Taven set up a table at ringside, a touch of madness in his eyes. Bennett blasted Dean with the Boston Bayonet. The Undisputed Kingdom spiked Dean on the ramp with the Hail Mary stuffed piledriver! Bravo blocked a suplex from Taven and rolled him up with a small package. Taven kicked out and the Undisputed Kingdom double teamed Bravo in the corner with quick tags and stomps. Shawn Dean came in and cleaned house on the champs. But the Undisputed Kingdom set up Dean for the Proton Pack. Bravo jumped in to break up the pin. Bravo flipped a switch in his mind, placed Taven on the table, and jumped off the ramp, smashing Taven through it! While the ref was outside checking on Taven, Dean splashed Bennett from the top rope and covered him. Wardlow snuck in the ring from out of nowhere, clocked Dean with a lariat, allowing Bennett to steal the pin and retain the titles for the Undisputed Kingdom! ROH Women’s World TV Title Tournament Final Match! Queen Aminata vs. Billie Starkz! The winner will be crowned the inaugural ROH Women’s World TV Champion. Queen Aminata was trying to win at all costs with roll ups. Queen Aminata smashed Billie with a charging boot. Billie and Aminata traded chops outside the ring. Aminata applied a cobra clutch inside the ring. Aminata transitioned to a Rings of Saturn leg lock, but Billie escaped. Billie dodged a hip attack, but Aminata cracked her with a knee strike. Aminata rocked Billie with a seesaw flatliner. Starkz delivered with a forearm and a right hand strike. Starks rocketed out with a tope suicida, the high risk paying off. Aminata moved out of the way of a senton from Starkz. Aminata jumped from the apron with a double stomp to Billie on the arena floor. Amina annihilated Starks with a suplex on the floor. Aminata connected from the top with a senton, but Billie kicked out at the one-count! Aminata decimated Billie with a hip attack and then a running boot. Both wrestlers jockeyed for position on the top turnbuckle. Billie used a thrust kick to knock Aminata off the top. Billie went for a swan dive, but Aminata countered by raising her knees. Billie appeared to have injured her neck. Doc Sampson came in to check on Billie. He placed a neck brace on her. The ref kept Queen Aminata away as medical staff helped Billie to her feet. Aminata held the ropes open, clearly concerned for her opponent. As Billie was being helped through the ropes, Billie grabbed Aminata and suplexed her! It was a ruse! “She fooled us all!” said Ian. Billie locked Aminata in a rear naked choke and Aminata was out of it! Billie Starkz became the inaugural ROH Women’s World TV Champion via ref stoppage! “The influence of Athena clearly runs deep into the DNA of this woman who has made disgraceful history!” said Ian. “Billie showing her true colors,” added Caprice. “She fooled all of us,” replied Nigel. Up next: The ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Bullet Club Gold— “Switchblade” Jay White and The Gunns—Austin & Colten came out to the ring! Jay White: “Yo! Yo! Listen! Guns up for my Philly Gold members! Philly, you guys know exactly what you’re looking at! The Bang Bang Gang, and we are the greatest three man team in all of professional wrestling and we’re going to show that right now by defending our championships. Who wants the opportunity of a lifetime?” Alex Zayne and “The MurderHawk Monster” Lance Archer walked onto the ramp! Archer: “Since the Bang Bang Gang is passing out opportunities, I figured I’d take this opportunity to introduce my tag team partner from New Japan Pro-Wrestling. This is “The Sauce” Alex Zayne. We are Monster Sauce and we’re going to love whoopin’ your ass. Oh, it is a trios championship, right? So, I have one more surprise.” Minoru Suzuki walked out to accompany Archer and Zayne! ROH Six-Man Tag Team Championship Match! The Bullet Club Gold— “Switchblade” Jay White and The Gunns—Austin & Colten vs. Minoru Suzuki & Alex Zayne and “The MurderHawk Monster” Lance Archer! Suzuki grabbed Jay White’s wrist and wrenched it back. Jay White chopped at Suzuki and Suzuki smirked. Suzuki went for the sleeper, but the Gunns pulled Jay out of the ring to safety. Austin entered the ring and Suzuki laughed at him, calling him “ass boy.” Suzuki decked Austin and Austin crumbled to the mat. Colten and Archer entered for their respective teams. Archer went for a splash in the corner, but Colten avoided it and hit a splash of his own. Archer stunned Colten with a vertical suplex and tagged in Zayne. Jay White grabbed a tag and cracked Zayne with a thunderous chop. The champs had a cohesiveness about them, utilizing quick tags to isolate Zayne in their corner. Suzuki battered White with rapid fire strikes. Colten ran in but he was knocked right down, as was Austin. Suzuki rocked White with a running kick. Suzuki went back to work on White’s wrist and then applied a sleeper. Zayne grabbed a blind tag and wiped out White with a running lariat. Zayne sent White flying with a hurracanrana off the top rope. Zayne climbed back up and tried for a 630 but White rolled out of the way. Suzuki ran in and put White in a sleeper, but the Gunns pulled White out again. The Gunns blindsided Archer with the 3:10 to Yuma. Jay White blasted Zayne with the Blade Runner and pinned Zayne. “Wow! The Bang Bang Gang shoots and scores again,” said Nigel. After the match, AEW World Trios Champs The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass jumped in the ring. Jay White nailed Bowens with the Blade Runner before the Bang Bang Gang ran to the back! Fight Without Honor! Dalton Castle vs. Johnny TV (with Taya Valkyrie)! Castle was looking for the Bangarang right away, but Johnny grabbed the ropes and escaped. Dalton kicked Johnny to the arena floor. Johnny baited Castle and stomped on his hands. Back in the ring, Castle rattled Johnny TV with a DDT. Dalton sent Johnny TV swirling to the outside with a hurracanrana. Taya grabbed Dalton’s ankle so Johnny could score a kick to Dalton. Johnny used a swinging neck breaker on Dalton. Johnny TV staggered Dalton with a series of spinning kicks. Dalton charged at Johnny, but Johnny dodged Dalton. Johnny TV set up a table at ringside. Johnny TV walloped Dalton in the hamstring with more kicks. Johnny whacked Dalton with a kendo stick. Johnny continued to assault Dalton with the kendo stick in the ring, delivering shots with impact to the back and knee. Johnny wiped out Dalton with a White Russian Leg Sweep, using the kendo stick. Castle found the peacock power inside him to suplex Johnny TV. Dalton grabbed the kendo stick and cracked Johnny TV with multiple shots. Johnny TV threw powder into Dalton’s eyes. Dalton went for the around the world hurracanrana, but Johnny TV caught him and countered with a power bomb through the table! Johnny TV wedged Dalton’s head through a steel chair and stomped on it. Johnny TV piled steel chairs on top of Dalton. Johnny was looking for Starship Pain, but Dalton got to his feet and smacked Johnny with a kendo stick shot to the back. Dalton crunched Johnny with a charging knee strike. Dalton said, “Bring me a boy!” Boys began to run down the ramp and into the ring. Dalton aimed them and threw them through the ropes out at Johnny TV! A lone boy walked to the ring. It was Paul Walter Hauser! Johnny TV jumped off the top rope and onto a pile of boys! Johnny approached Paul Walter Hauser, but Paul planted him with a Sky High! Paul pointed to the back and the boys carried Taya away! Paul helped Dalton open a bag of thumbtacks and pour them onto the ring. Dalton hit the Bangarang on Johnny TV right into the thumbtacks and pinned Johnny TV! ROH Women’s World Title Match! Athena (c.) vs. Hikaru Shida! Shida had wrist control on Athena and clobbered Athena with short clotheslines. Shida followed up with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Athena managed to tie up Shida’s legs in the ropes and Athena stomped on Shida’s legs, targeting the knee ligaments. Shida got back to her feet, but Athena went right back to work on the leg. Athena planted Shida with an Alabama Slam. Athena applied an ankle lock, but Shida escaped. Shida desperately fought to get back into the match. Shida snapped Athena to the mat with a suplex for a two-count. Shida scored with a shotgun dropkick. Shida rocked Athena with a running knee to Athena outside the ring. Shida rattled Athena with a question mark kick. Athena fired back with a wheelbarrow suplex. Shida blocked the O-Face. Athena blocked the Katana. Athena went back to the ankle lock, pain etched on Shida’s face. Shida grabbed the bottom rope, forcing the ref to break the hold. Athena tried to spear Shida through the ropes and onto the ramp, but Athena countered with a knee strike. Shida climbed to the top turnbuckle and squashed Athena with a meteroa. The tides were beginning to shift in favor of the challenger. Shida planted Athena with a falcon arrow, but Athena kicked out at the one-count! Athena power bombed Shida. Athena hit a second power bomb, this time on the arena floor! Athena finally caught Shida in the O-Face, but Shida kicked out! The fans chanted “Shida! Shida! Shida!” Champion and challenger jockeyed for position on top of the turnbuckles. Shida hoisted up Athena and planted her across the top turnbuckle. Shida followed up with the katana for a near fall! Shida suplexed Athena. Athena rocked Shida with a forearm. Athena planted Shida with the O-Face and pinned Shida! “Athena reaches 50 in a row, closing in on 500 days as champion,” said Ian. “Athena is the most dominant Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion of all time,” added Nigel. ROH Women’s World TV Title Tournament Final Match! Queen Aminata vs. Billie Starkz! The winner will be crowned the inaugural ROH Women’s World TV Champion. Queen Aminata was trying to win at all costs with roll ups. Queen Aminata smashed Billie with a charging boot. Billie and Aminata traded chops outside the ring. Aminata applied a cobra clutch inside the ring. Aminata transitioned to a Rings of Saturn leg lock, but Billie escaped. Billie dodged a hip attack, but Aminata cracked her with a knee strike. Aminata rocked Billie with a seesaw flatliner. Starkz delivered with a forearm and a right hand strike. Starks rocketed out with a tope suicida, the high risk paying off. Aminata moved out of the way of a senton from Starkz. Aminata jumped from the apron with a double stomp to Billie on the arena floor. Amina annihilated Starks with a suplex on the floor. Nine months ago, at DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR 2023, Mark was scheduled to fight Claudio Castagnoli for that championship, the renewal of a rivalry dating back to ROH circa 2006, but a knee injury to Mark cost him that opportunity, as well as four months of his in-ring career. As with any injury there's always two questions that linger in your mind, one being if you'll be able to come back from the injury and the other being how you'll come back from it. In the case of Mark Briscoe, there was no if only a when, but as for the how, well he came back fighting hard, but also losing hard, dropping five straight singles matches in AEW's Continental Classic before finally beating Jay Lethal in each man's last match of the Gold League. But in the midst of that, during FINAL BATTLE 2023, he at least found some success with FTR fighting at his, success that came in the form of a Fight Without Honor victory over The Blackpool Combat Club, a match that started as an honorable fight in memory of Jay Briscoe before erupting into the violence party that took place. Mark's in-ring life post-Continental Classic hasn't improved, in fact in some ways it has been made much worse thanks to the actions of The House of Black, but at least Mark has found allies in that fight, allies named TNT Champion Adam Copeland and ROH World Champion Eddie Kingston. That's right, the very man Mark Briscoe will fight at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2024 is the very man who will stand by his side at AEW's DYNASTY 2024 in a Trios War against Malakai Black, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews. It's a complicated situation but Eddie Kingston is, if nothing else, a complicated man whose life as of late has been quite the complicated situation. From the moment Kingston won the Continental Classic at WORLDS END up until March 20th when Kazuchika Okada defeated him for the AEW Continental Championship, Eddie had been responsible for the three different championships that made up this modern day American Triple Crown. He'd reigned as NJPW STRONG Openweight Champion since July 5, 2023 when he defeated KENTA and as ROH World Champion since September 20, 2023 when he bested Claudio Castagnoli, but then added the AEW Continental Championship on December 30th when he beat Jon Moxley in the Continental Classic Finals. The responsibilities of three championships hung around the neck of Eddie Kingston, and though he fought every title fight with all three at stake in the form of the Continental Crown, he knew that at any given moment, one title could be taken away by the litany of competitors who wanted their shot, it just so happened that “The Rainmaker” was the first to rip asunder that Crown. In the aftermath of that championship loss, Eddie Kingston was shockingly humble, asking Okada to carry the Continental Championship with the same respect he did the IWGP World Title, and honor the hard work Eddie had put into building that title up from the nothing into which it was born. Given where Eddie had come from, this response was an example of the growth Kingston had experienced as a man, but for his mentor Homicide, a former ROH World Champion and one of the most respected wrestlers of this generation, it was example of ways Eddie had grown soft. “The Notorious 187”, as Homicide has been dubbed, wanted to see the fire in Eddie's belly, the angry man who raged against loss and defeat, who responded by ripping at people's eyes, by throttling them around the neck, by cracking their heads with a chair and not caring about the consequences. Homicide essentially challenged Kingston to bring his inner demons out to play, and it looks like Mark Briscoe may have to contend with “The Last of a Dying Breed” iteration of Kingston rather than the man who carried the Continental Crown with respect, and who uttered the words “humble in victory, humble in defeat”. That means war, that means a fight like the kind of hell Mark and Jay Briscoe would put each other through when they went head-to-head, and that's not a fight based on hate, envy, or jealousy, but one based on two men willing to do anything it takes to win. They can apologize to one another after the fight for the battle scars left behind, they can share a drink and toast to their fight after the final bell rings, but between the opening ding and the three count, Mark Briscoe and Eddie Kingston will be the worst of enemies simply because there is a championship at stake. But not just any championship, it is the ROH World Championship that Jay Briscoe won from Kevin Steen in the Hammerstein Ballroom at SUPERCARD OF HONOR VII on April 5th 2013. ROH WOMEN'S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH... “The Fallen Goddess” Athena(c) vs. Hikaru Shida “The Fallen Goddess” Athena has reigned over the ROH Women's Division since FINAL BATTLE 2022 when she bested Mercedes Martinez to claim the crown. Over the 480+ days since, Athena has successfully defended the title nineteen times over fifteen different women, including a rematch with Mercedes, a 2/3 Falls Table Match with Nyla Rose, a Chicago Street Fight with Kiera Hogan, and even a fight with her own Minion on Training Billie Starkz at FINAL BATTLE 2023. In addition to those title defenses “The Fallen Goddess” has turned away 28 Proving Ground/Eliminator challenges, is 48-0 in singles matches involving her championship, and has only tasted defeat twice in ROH, both times in tag matches where Starkz was on the losing end up the decision, making her 50-2 since December 10, 2022. As dominant as champions like Samoa Joe, Bryan Danielson, Nigel McGuinness, Jay Lethal, and RUSH were atop the Men's Division during their reigns, none of them fought as many times as Athena has during their first 480 days, certainly didn't win as many matches in that time frame, and neither Bryan nor Lethal even reached that many days in their respective reigns. Athena is, in many ways, the most dominant performer that Ring of Honor has ever seen, but this Friday night on Honor Club, she's faced with someone who had her number once in the past, and who she is clearly worried may still have that number saved. The Hikaru Shida of today stands as a 3-Time former AEW Women's World Champion, a former 2-Time Regina Di WAVE Champion for Pro Wrestling WAVE, and 5-Time International Ribbon Tag Team Champion for Ice Ribbon, but in April 2013, when Shida defeated Athena as part of the SHIMMER VOL. 66 event, she was a relatively unknown commodity on just her second-ever tour of the United States, the first being in October of the previous year. Though by that point Shida was already a highly decorated champion in for Ice Ribbon, REINA X, OZ Academy, and WAVE, she'd only just begun to make an impression on the American audiences, but it wouldn't be until her breakout in All Elite Wrestling that she truly cemented herself in the conversation as one of the best women in the entire professional wrestling world today. That is a conversation that Athena also became a part of as her ROH Women's World Championship reign grew in stature, and her in-ring presence became so utterly dominating. It was as if her status in Ring of Honor unlocked every bit of nastiness Athena had kept bottled up inside, and the longer her championship reign lasted, the worse it got for her opponents, whether they were well-traveled veterans or locals hoping for an opportunity, “The Fallen Goddess” treated them all with the same disdain, to the point that even her own M.I.T was on the receiving end of that attitude, but not Shida. Try as she might to present that way, Athena was clearly shook when Shida stepped up as her next challenger several weeks ago, and after Thursday night left the defending champion laying in the shambles of a broken table with Shida hold the ROH Women's World Title belt, Athena may be coming into SUPERCARD off her game unlike she's ever been off before. For Hikaru Shida, this Friday is a chance to grow her legacy into something even greater than she already has through her work in AEW and around the world, while for Athena it's a match to show how far she's come since that 2014 fight, and demonstrate that she's no longer afraid of a fight with Shida. A final thought, though it's likely been questioned every fight for the last year it once again needs to be posited; if this 3-Time AEW Women's World Champion ends up being unable to bring an end to the reign of “The Forever Champ”, who will be next to step up to challenge Athena's dominance? It began February 15th with sixteen women all hoping to be the inaugural champion, and week-by-week it has been whittled down to just these two remaining warriors. Creeping on her seventh anniversary as a professional wrestler, Queen Aminata has demonstrated a poise beyond her years, and a fighting spirit that even veterans with multiple decades under their belt can't hope to match. She is a fighter on a mission to become the first African-born Women's Champion, and represent her home with the pride and passion she feels every time she sets foot inside the squared circle. The Queen wasn't feeling particularly juicy after her fight with Taya Valkyrie, but she had some time to recover, enough that she accompanied Hikaru Shida during the ROH Women's World Championship contract signing last night, and dropped Billie Starkz with a headbutt during the fracas. It was quite the impactful last word, so to speak, before SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2024, but given the fight Billie Starkz has been putting up since first starting her career nearly six years ago, it's not going to enough to deter her from squaring up with Aminata Friday night. And though Athena may seem a bit frustrated that the Women's TV Title Tournament is taking any bit of focus away from her title, there's no question Billie Starkz has it in her mind that she needs to win the Women's TV Title as much to prove herself to “The Fallen Goddess” as she needs it for herself. This tournament has come down to two hungry young women looking to make history as the first ROH Women's World TV Champion, and there can only ever be one first for any championship, but will it be Billie Starkz or Queen Aminata who etches their name in the history books? Kyle Fletcher(c) vs. “Big Shotty” Lee Johnson On the road to FINAL BATTLE 2023, Lee Johnson defeated Josh Woods to qualify for the Survival of The Fittest Elimination match while Kyle Fletcher bested Gravity to earn his spot in that battle to earn the vacant ROH World Television Championship. Unfortunately for Johnson, on December 15th he was the very first man eliminated in the bout, lasting nearly nine minutes before falling victim to Lee Moriarty, and heading to the back where he watched Kyle Fletcher put away Bryan Keith and Komander to earn the coveted title. Now wearing a belt made famous by men like Samoa Joe, Jay Lethal, Adam Cole, Matt Taven, and Christopher Daniels, to name a handful, Kyle Fletcher stated his mission was to become the greatest ROH World Television in history, and he began that mission in earnest by successfully defending the title on three consecutive episodes of ROH ON HONOR CLUB, including one over Christopher Daniels. Then Don Callis came calling, and Kyle Fletcher got wrapped up in Family business on several All Elite Wrestling events, including a fight with Chris Jericho and battling DCF member Will Ospreay, but on the March 28th edition of ROH ON HONOR CLUB, the World Television Champion returned to the fold and got right back to work with a victory over “All Heart” Blake Christian. That win marked the fourth title defense of Fletcher's reign, and as he heads into SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2024, he is poised to break into the top half of the thirty-one all-time TV Title reigns. Meanwhile, while Fletcher was splitting the time since FINAL BATTLE 2023 between Don Callis Family business and his responsibilities as ROH World Television Champion, “Big Shotty” Lee Johnson was quietly building a strong contender's resume in Ring of Honor. In his twelve matches since December 15th, Johnson has only lost two (one to Chris Daniels and one to Dante Martin) and is currently on a nine match winning streak, including one taking place on last night's edition of ROH ON HONOR CLUB over Nick Comoroto! Shawn Dean & Carlie Bravo) Congratulations are in order for The Infantry of “Bad News & Tattoos” Carlie Bravo and Capt. Shawn Dean; on Thursday night's edition of ROH ON HONOR CLUB, the duo became the first competitors, in any division, to earn a title match via Proving Ground since February 9, 2020. That's thirty-five Proving Ground matches, a great many of them featuring ROH Women's World Champion Athena, where the potential challengers could neither defeat the reigning champions, nor even last the time limit. Thursday night in Worcester at the DCU Center, The Infantry broke that losing streak, and are set to reap their reward just twenty-four hours later here at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2024! As mentioned prior to their Honor Club bout, The Infantry and The Undisputed Kingdom have a bit of history that dates back to the first episode of ROH ON HONOR CLUB when The Infantry lost to Taven and Bennett. It picked back up three months later when The Kingdom again defeated Bravo and Dean, but The Infantry would score a victory of their own just three weeks later, in part because of Trish Adora's addition to their unit helping to neutralize Maria's presence with Taven and Bennett. This led to a Mixed Trios match where Adora and The Infantry lost to Taven, Bennett, and Leyla Hirsch, sending the two groups back down separate paths, a path that ultimately led to the formation of The Undisputed Kingdom for Taven and Bennett, as well as the beginning of their third ROH World Tag Team Title reign. Let's start with the trio of Cosmic Angel's founder Tam Nakano and Queen's Quest representatives AZM(pronounced Azumi) and Saya Kamitani; Nakano has held four different championship in Stardom, including being one of just two women to hold the World of Stardom (or Red Belt) and Wonder of Stardom (or White Belt) titles simultaneously. Her reign with the World of Stardom Title was brought to an abrupt end after 211 days when a knee injury forced her to vacate the championship in October 2023, leading directly to Maika claiming the title in December 2023, and holding said championship to this day. Nakano has serious ties that bind with a few of her opponents for this contest, as Tam was responsible for bring Mina Shirakawa into Stardom in the first place as part of her STARS faction prior to the two breaking off into the Cosmic Angels. Nakano even held the Artist of Stardom championship (Trios Championship) with Mina as one of her partners, but that didn't stop Shirakawa from splintering off into another faction, this one known as Club Venus, right alongside Mariah May and Xia Brookside. That betrayal created a long-standing rivalry between Mina Shirakawa and Tam Nakano, but it's one where Mina has never managed to score a singles victory, even losing her Wonder of Stardom belt to Nakano in a title-for-title bout with the World of Stardom also at stake. As for the Queen's Quest pair, AZM began her wrestling training at the age of nine, debuted at twelve years old, and since then the now-21 year old prodigy has captured the Stardom High Speed Championship twice, a title for which she holds the record for most defenses at 12 during her second reign, and is a former 3-Time Artist of Stardom Champion. Saya Kamitani is a record-setting champion in her own right, notching 15 successful defenses during her 480 day reign as World of Stardom champion, and she also has some deep ties to the three women they'll be facing at SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2024. A November 2022 World of Stardom Championship match with Mina Shirakawa resulted in Mina sustaining a serious mouth injury from Saya's Phoenix Splash, an injury that put Mina on the shelf for the remainder of 2022, and made Kamitani gun shy about using the Phoenix for the remainder of her championship reign. But by early 2023, Saya would be back in action and ultimately end Mina's 480 day reign with the White Belt in April 23rd of last year.  Maika and Saya have fought over every title in Stardom, including a World of Stardom bout on February 4th of this year, and Saya's Goddesses of Stardom (Tag Team) Championship reign was ended just six days ago by Mei Seira and Suzu Suzuki. As for the other side of the match, current High Speed and Goddesses of Stardom Champion Mei Seira is unaffiliated when it comes to the factions in the promotion, but she does have an on-going rivalry with AZM when it comes to the High Speed Championship and her Goddesses of Stardom partner, Suzu Suzuki, is the woman Maika beat to claim the World of Stardom Championship back in December. Now Maika, in addition to holding that championship, is also part of the current Artist of Stardom Championship trio along Mina Shirakawa and Xena, collectively known as The Empress NeXus Venus(or EXV). ROH fans also recently saw Shirakawa make her debut in a hard-fought victory over Anna Jay during the March 21st edition of ROH ON HONOR CLUB, and if match is any indication of what these women will bring to the table on April 5th, Ring of Honor fans are in for a treat! As far back as 2006, when the original SUPERCARD OF HONOR presented a landscape-shifting Six-Man Tag from the players out of Dragon Gate Pro Wrestling, competitors from around the world displaying all styles of professional wrestling, have made an impact on ROH during SUPERCARD events, and this year looks to be no different as the athletes from Stardom come to town! Dalton Castle vs. Johnny TV For months Johnny TV and Taya Valkyrie have lived in the head of Dalton Castle; ever since Castle beat him on the December 7th edition of ROH ON HONOR CLUB, Johnny and Taya have made life hellish for the former ROH World Champion. From being directly responsible for Dalton's elimination from the Survival of the Fittest Finals at FINAL BATTLE 2023, to driving Castle mad in his hunt to punch Johnny in the face, to taking his Boys away from him and, apparently, losing them in the woods to be possibly eaten by bears, Johnny and Taya have made life hell for Dalton Castle. But now Dalton has a chance to right the wrongs, well maybe not The Boys possibly being eaten by bears, but at least right the humiliation and embarrassment that has been heaped upon his life these last four months, and he gets to do it under one of ROH's most potentially violent stipulations: the Fight Without Honor! Since the stipulation was first introduced at GLORY BY HONOR 2002 with Samoa Joe's ROH debut, there have been twenty-three such matches, seventeen of them in one-on-one bouts, and Dalton Castle actually earned the victory in one of those on the 4/9/16 edition of ROH WRESTLING that is actually available as part of an Honor Club subscription. Since the AEW acquisition of Ring of Honor two years ago, there have been three Fight Without Honor bouts, but this Friday night will mark the first singles match under that stipulation since Shane Taylor collided with Kenny King at FINAL BATTLE 2021: END OF AN ERA, and that bout was quite the violent, hard-hitting affair. That's the beauty, and the horror, of what a Fight Without Honor can be once the bell rings; given it's a fight where the referee only exists to ring the bell to start and finish the match, anything can happen in between. The original FWH was a vicious striking affair, one devoid of weapons save the bodies of Samoa Joe and Low Ki, but then there's the FINAL BATTLE 2012 battle between Kevin Steen and El Generico that was as littered emotion as it was with weapons and blood. There's the Briscoes battling Haas and Benjamin and the latter two using ether to end the contest, or there's the absolute war from FINAL BATTLE 2023 between Blackpool Combat Club and FTR/Mark Briscoe; it's a stipulation that can become anything, so when it's two men like Dalton Castle and Johnny TV, it's going to be quite an interesting stipulation to watch unfold! Perhaps that stems from the SHIMMER victory that Shida holds over Athena dating back a decade almost to the day, or perhaps it's because regardless of how dominant she's been as the ROH Women's World Champion, Athena perceives Shida's three reigns atop the AEW Women's Division as somehow more dominant. Only “The Fallen Goddess” really knows the source of her feelings towards Hikaru Shida's arrival in Ring of Honor, and she's not about to admit to anyone what's really going on inside her mind. Perhaps she will share some genuine thoughts and feelings with the world during the course of this contract signing, but if the history of these situations in professional wrestling are any indication, there's likely to be some trouble going down before the big fight on Friday night! ONE-ON-ONE... “Big Shotty” Lee Johnson vs. Nick Comoroto Lee Johnson called his shot last week during ROH ON HONOR CLUB, letting ROH World Television Champion Kyle Fletcher know that he had his sights set on the championship Fletcher won at FINAL BATTLE 2023 last December. Backed up by an impressive eight match winning streak, and having only lost two of his last eleven bouts, “Big Shotty” has been putting in the work to make himself a contender, and though the match was made official a week ago, the #1 contender is still putting in the work twenty-four hours before his title fight! Thursday night during ROH ON HONOR CLUB, Lee Johnson reunites with an old Factory friend in Nick Comoroto for a one-on-one contest! Now these two men are quite familiar with one another, both having fought, and trained, under the wing of QT Marshall at The Factory, and they've united several times over the years, but it's been since October 2023 that they last crossed path. That night, during ROH ON HONOR CLUB #36, both men lost in a Three Way bout to Action Andretti, and proceeded to go their separate ways to find themselves all over again. For Lee Johnson, that journey of self-discovery has led to his impending ROH World Television Championship match while for Nick Comoroto, it seems to have led him to whatever it is Jacoby Watts has to offer. Now their paths converge once more on the eve of the biggest night in Lee Johnson's wrestling career, but one has to question the choice by “Big Shotty” of taking on this fight so close to his championship bout. Nick Comoroto is a beast, a powerhouse of a man, and could very well bring Johnson's championship aspirations crashing down before he even gets to Philadelphia on Friday. Lee Johnson may be trying to prove a point to Kyle Fletcher, he may just be trying to keep himself ready for the fight on Friday, but he best be wary of the risk he's taking by going to battle so close to his prize fight. It's a safe bet Kyle Fletcher will be watching this one closely to see if Nick Comoroto exposes any weaknesses on Lee Johnson, or perhaps even creates one for the ROH World TV Champion to exploit! PROVING GROUND CONTEST... ROH World Tag Team Champions Matt Taven & Mike Bennett vs. The Infantry (Capt. Shawn Dean & Carlie Bravo) After scoring a shocking upset over The House of Black in the Wild Card matches of the AEW World Tag Title Tournament, The Infantry of Carlie Bravo and Capt. Shawn Dean were primed up to make a run towards the finals at DYNASTY 2024 (https://www.allelitewrestling.com/aew-event/aew-dynasty). Unfortunately fate, and FTR, had other plans for them, and The Infantry were eliminated from the tournament field by Dax and Cash. Yet as Alexander Graham Bell said, when one door closes another door opens, and thankfully The Infantry are not men who will spend their time regretfully looking upon the closed door. Instead Carlio and Captain will look to this Thursday night during ROH ON HONOR CLUB where they will enter the Proving Ground with ROH World Tag Team Champions Matt Taven and Mike Bennett in an effort to earn a shot at those championship titles! Now The Infantry and The Kingdom are no strangers to one another, their issues date back to the very first episode of ROH ON HONOR CLUB from 3/2/23 where Taven and Bennett got the victory, and include two more tag team encounters during HONOR CLUB #14 and #17 where each team picked up a victory. Taven and Bennett hold the 2-1 advantage in tag team competition over Bravo and Dean, but the culmination of their rivalry came in a Mixed Trios bout where Leyla Hirsch joined The Kingdom to defeat Bravo, Dean, and Trish Adora. This time around there is so much more at stake, especially with SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2024 just twenty-four hours away, because The Infantry has an opportunity to earn their first ROH World Tag Team Championship match! The rules of the Proving Ground are simple, beat the champions or last ten minutes and earn a championship match, but the actual act of accomplishing that goal isn't so easy. In fact, in the thirty-four Proving Ground matches that have taken place in the new era of honor that began with SUPERCARD OF HONOR 2022, not one potential challenger has bested the champion to earn a title match!  Can The Infantry be the first team to accomplish that goal since Ring of Honor came under the auspices of General Manager Tony Khan?
