The greatest tag team in ROH history had one of the greatest years in their storied history.
Jay and Mark Briscoe began 2019 as the reigning, 10-time ROH World Tag Team Champions. They lost the belts to Villain Enterprises’ PCO and Brody King at the 17th Anniversary Show in March, but they went to win their 11th championship in July, defeating then-IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions The Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa) in a wild New York City Street Fight that headlined Manhattan Mayhem.
The Briscoes retained the title by defeating G.O.D. again in a Ladder War in the Summer Supercard main event in August. The bloody, brutal encounter was a strong candidate for Match of the Year.
During the year, the Briscoes also successfully defended the title against teams such as current IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Juice Robinson and David Finlay, Bandido and Mark Haskins, The Bouncers, and even the legendary Rock ‘n’ Roll Express.
They lost the championship to Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham at Final Battle in December, but the controversial decision doesn’t change the fact that in 2019 the Briscoes again set the standard for tag teams in ROH and all of pro wrestling.
