Tag Team Of The Year: The Briscoes

Jay and Mark Briscoe put aside their singles careers in 2018 and placed all of their emphasis on reclaiming their standing as the most dominant tag team in the sport. Dem Boys from Sandy Fork, Del., proved that not only are they as good as they’ve ever been inside the ring, but they’re more dangerous and bloodthirsty than ever -- and that’s saying something.

The Briscoes added to their record number of ROH World Tag Team Titles by winning them for the ninth time at the ROH 16th Anniversary pay-per-view in March over The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley). After losing the titles to SCU (Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky) seven months later in a three-way match also involving The Young Bucks, the Briscoes became 10-time champions by winning a brutal Ladder War over SCU and the Bucks at Final Battle last month.

For perspective, no other tag team has held the titles more than three times, and the Briscoes’ 1,052 combined days as champions (as of Jan. 9) is nearly as many days as the second- and third-longest reigning champions combined.

Along the way the Briscoes successfully defended their titles against some of the greatest tag teams in the sport, including: The Young Bucks, The Addiction (Christopher Daniels and Kazarian), Motor City Machine Guns, Los Ingobernables de Japón (EVIL and SANADA, Tetsuya Naito and BUSHI), Killer Elite Squad (Lance Archer and Davey Boy Smith Jr.), Bullet Club (Cody and “Hangman” Adam Page), Roppongi 3K (Sho and Yoh) and Coast 2 Coast (LSG and Shaheem Ali), as well as the dream team of Jay Lethal and Hiroshi Tanahashi.
