Status Of ROH World TV Title Match At Death Before Dishonor; Fans To Pick Challengers For Six-Man Titles; Wild-Card Eight-Man Tag Match In Las Vegas

By Kevin Eck

Some breaking news regarding the status of the ROH World Television Title match scheduled for the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view in Las Vegas on Sept. 27:

The Triple Threat Match between champion Shane Taylor, Flip Gordon and “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams will go on as scheduled.

As announced by ROH officials earlier this week, ROH and Taylor agreed to terms on a buyout of his contract, thus making him a free agent. A subsequent agreement was reached for Taylor to make his advertised title defense at DBD.

The ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Titles, which are currently held by Villain Enterprises (Marty Scurll, PCO and Brody King), will be defended at The Experience in Pittsburgh on Nov. 2, and fans will choose which competitors will be on the challenging team.

The Experience is ROH’s most interactive show, as it gives the people the opportunity to vote for the match-ups and stipulations they want to see.

As first announced by ROH broadcaster Ian Riccaboni, a wild-card eight-man tag match will take place at Death Before Dishonor Fallout in Las Vegas on Sept. 28. The two four-man teams will be selected at random. Participants in the match will be announced throughout the coming week, starting Monday.

Another match recently signed for DBD Fallout pits PJ Black against Rhett Titus.

For those attending the show, matches taped exclusively for future episodes of “Ring of Honor Wrestling” will begin at 6 p.m. Pacific. The show will stream live for HonorClub at 7 p.m. Pacific.

Speaking of Titus, congratulations to him for winning the MCW Heavyweight Championship in the seven-man Honor Games match at the Future of Honor show in Joppa, Md., Friday night.

It was a shocking turn of events, as Titus -- a surprise entrant in the bout -- ended the 433-day reign of Dante Caballero. Caballero, an ROH Top Prospect Tournament semifinalist, was just three days away from becoming the longest-reigning MCW Heavyweight Champion in history.

In a match of this kind, a random draw determines the order of the participants. Two men start the match, with a competitor being added every three minutes. When a fall occurs, the loser of the fall is eliminated, and the winner of the fall becomes the leader. If the match goes the full 30-minute time limit, whoever is the leader when time expires is the winner.

It came down to Titus, Caballero and TPT finalist Austin Gunn, and Titus prevailed.

Ever since Titus’ former tag team partner Kenny King verbally humiliated him in front of his pregnant wife a few months ago, Titus has been a more focused and determined competitor. I wouldn’t be surprised if the MCW Heavyweight Title is just the first step in a career renaissance for Titus.

A press conference with ROH World Champion Matt Taven and the undefeated RUSH, the two participants in the championship main event of the DBD pay-per-view, will take place this Tuesday. Keep it locked onto ROH’s social media channels for details on how to watch it.

Given the heat that exists between these two, it will be interesting to see how they handle being just a few feet from one another.

I’m hearing there will be some exciting news regarding PCO announced this coming week.

The Kingdom’s TK O’Ryan has been conspicuous by his absence as of late. He has been dealing with some injuries, but there is no official word on his status, as O’Ryan has not been forthcoming with information.

Brian Zane of the Wrestling With Wregret YouTube channel will be in Las Vegas during DBD weekend to film some segments for upcoming episodes of “Ring of Honor Wrestling.”
