It sounds cliche, but ROH World Champion Cody truly does appear to have it all.
In addition to being the holder of the most prestigious title in the sport, Cody has his stunning wife, Brandi Rhodes, by his side; he is a key member of Bullet Club, the hottest faction in pro wrestling and a global phenomenon; and he recently signed the most lucrative contract in Ring of Honor history.
There is one man, however, who has the ability to change Cody’s world in an instant -- or three seconds, to be exact. That man -- Dalton Castle -- will get that opportunity when he faces Cody for the ROH World Championship at the Final Battle pay-per-view on Dec. 15.
It was obvious from the moment Castle issued a challenge to Cody during ROH’s War of the World UK tour in August that the champion wanted no part of ROH’s most flamboyant competitor. After leaving the challenge unanswered, Cody viciously attacked Castle backstage the following night, injuring Castle’s shoulder and temporarily putting him out of action.
Subsequently, Cody voluntarily defended his title against the likes of Cheeseburger and ROH Dojo trainee Ryan Nova while continually denying Castle a shot. Castle, however, proved to be a thorn in Cody’s side and eventually got his wish -- an ROH World Title match with Cody on the grand stage at Final Battle.
Despite Cody’s reluctance to defend his championship against Castle, there’s no denying that the second-generation star’s reign has been impressive and he’s raised the profile of the ROH World Title.
Since winning the championship from Christopher Daniels at the Best in the World pay-per-view in June, Cody has put together a string of successful title defenses against competitors such as former world champions Daniels and Michael Elgin, as well as KUSHIDA, Minoru Suzuki, SANADA, Frankie Kazarian and Rocky Romero. He also has successfully defended the title outside of ROH.
Along the way, Cody began wearing an extravagant “ring of honor” on his finger, and he literally wants his opponents -- and everyone else he comes in contact with -- to kiss his ring. Sometimes, he leaves them no choice but to do so, which was the case recently with Castle.
After Castle defeated Bullet Club’s Adam Page, both Cody and Page attacked Castle. As Page held Castle, Cody used the huge ring on his finger to punch Castle in the face. After a lifeless Castle fell to the mat, Cody held the ring to Castle’s mouth to symbolically have him kiss the ring.
Some find the gesture to be insulting, while many others, including ROH fans, line up by the hundreds at live events to literally KISS THE RING! And now the ROH Pro Shop has just debuted the exclusive “Kiss The Ring” t-shirt! Take advantage of the huge savings this Black Friday Weekend including 25% of this shirt and even Free US Shipping for orders over $100! Want another 15% off all items year-round?
