ROH Recap: Are Cody And Marty Scurll Fine After Bullet Club's Battle With SoCal Uncensored?

Bullet Club collides with ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions SoCal Uncensored, but is trouble brewing between Cody and Marty Scurll? Punishment Martinez is the first obstacle in Jay Lethal’s road to glory; and Shane Taylor snaps!

“Ring of Honor Wrestling” #348
Airdate: Weekend of May 19, 2018
Location: Stage AE in Pittsburgh

-- Jay Lethal defeated Punishment Martinez

-- Shane Taylor versus Joey “Diesel” Daddiego ended in a no-contest

-- Bullet Club (Cody, Marty Scurll and Adam Page) defeated ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky) in a non-title match

Punishment Martinez vs. Jay Lethal

Lethal’s quest to avenge his recent losses begins with Martinez, who defeated Lethal during the Survival of the Fittest tournament in November. The former ROH World and World Television Champion wasted no time going on the offensive, connecting on seven suicide dives in a row to start the match. From there, Lethal focused his attack on Martinez’s left leg.

Fighting on one leg, the resilient Martinez countered a Lethal Injection attempt with a full nelson face-first slam. “The Creeper of Violence” followed with a curb stomp for a near fall. Martinez then attempted a spinning heel kick, but his injured leg buckled, and Lethal nailed him with a superkick before hitting Lethal Injection to notch an impressive victory.

Joey “Diesel” Daddiego vs. Shane Taylor

It’s been some time since the blue collar Daddiego has appeared on Ring of Honor Wrestling, and the steel worker by day/pro wrestler by night was looking to make a statement against one of the biggest and baddest men in ROH. The former Golden Gloves champion surprised Taylor with a flurry of effective punches to the body, and he nearly scored the huge upset after hitting the Daddiego Valley Driver.

Taylor, recovered, however, and went on the attack. He tossed Daddiego around outside the ring before placing him across two chairs Taylor had set up on the floor. Taylor then crushed Daddiego with a running splash off the apron. The referee attempted to get Taylor to back off, but Taylor grabbed the official by the throat and chokeslammed him. Three members of security came down to try to subdue Taylor, but he took out all of them as well. The match was declared a no-contest.

Cody has big news

In a backstage segment with Cody and Brandi Rhodes, Cody said he’s ready for tonight’s six-man tag match, but he also has some news that Marty Scurll doesn’t know about. Cody revealed that he’s taking his rematch against ROH World Champion Dalton Castle at Best in the World on June 29.

Bullet Club (Cody, Marty Scurll and Adam Page w/Burnard The Business Bear) vs. ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky) (non-title match)

Early in the match, Cody delivered what appeared to be an inadvertent Disaster Kick to Scurll, but Bullet Club remained a cohesive unit as the match progressed. The two factions battled back and forth, with members of both teams hitting big moves either off the apron or the top rope to the floor. With everyone struggling to get to their feet outside the ring, Cody suplexed Daniels off the top rope onto them. Eventually, Page landed Rite of Passage on Sky to secure the win for Bullet Club.

As Cody and Page had their hands raised in victory, Daniels and Kazarian attacked them from behind. Kazarian grabbed Scurll’s umbrella, but Scurll took it from him and Kazarian retreated. Scurll then went to hit Daniels with the umbrella, but Daniels moved and Scurll blasted Cody with it. Scurll appeared remorseful as he checked on his fallen teammate.

“Punishment Martinez … you are my first stop in the road back to glory. You have a lot of momentum on your side; well I plan on ending that momentum right now.”

-- Jay Lethal prior to his match against Punishment Martinez

“Everybody has to get up and go to work every day but some of us work just that much harder than everybody else. And if I do that here, it don’t matter if it’s a Silas Young, if it’s a Kenny King … if it’s a Shane Taylor, I can walk through him.”
