ROH 5 Count: Top Contenders To ROH World Tag Team Titles

Nine-time ROH World Tag Team Champions Jay and Mark Briscoe, who recently surpassed 1,000 combined days as the titleholders, have been as good as ever since their current reign began last March at the ROH 16th Anniversary Show.

However, there are a number of talented teams who have set their sights on knocking the Briscoes off their throne. Here’s a look at the top 5 contenders to the ROH World Tag Team Titles:

At a combined weight of nearly 700 pounds, Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas are the biggest tag team in ROH, and also one of the toughest. Despite what their name implies, these behemoths are more than barroom brawlers; they’re also deceptively agile. The Briscoes learned firsthand not to take them lightly -- no pun intended -- when The Bouncers nearly upset the champs in a non-title match that aired last month on “Ring of Honor Wrestling.”

Beretta and Chuckie T. were rapidly climbing the tag team rankings before Beretta suffered a torn pec and torn biceps in February that put him on the shelf for five months. They’ve picked up right where they left off since being reunited, including scoring a victory over Bully Ray and Silas Young on a recent episode of “Ring of Honor Wrestling” and knocking off former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Killer Elite Squad (Lance Archer and Davey Boy Smith Jr.) at a New Japan Pro-Wrestling event over the weekend.

After ending 2017 with a huge win over War Machine in a match in which Shaheem Ali and LSG vowed to break up if they lost, the high-flying duo has been undefeated. They’ve beaten such teams as The Motor City Machine Guns, The Kingdom and The Bouncers. Ali was out of action for a few months due to injuries he suffered in a car accident, but he’s healthy now, and C2C will get a shot at the ROH World Tag Team Titles on Sept. 29 at the Death Before Dishonor international television tapings in Las Vegas.

Matt and Nick Jackson are the reigning IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions as well as the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions with fellow Bullet Club member Cody. One of the most innovative and successful tag teams of all time, The Young Bucks are three-time former ROH World Tag Team Champions -- only the Briscoes have held the titles more times -- and perennially in the tag team title picture.

On a quest to win the ROH World Tag Team Titles for a third time, Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian are literally fighting for their careers. ROH COO Joe Koff announced early this year that he was going to let their contracts expire after Final Battle in December, so Daniels and Kazarian are hoping to have gold around their waists at that point to give them leverage. The veteran duo started a war with the Briscoes at Best in the World in June, and they’ve gotten the better of the champs in singles and six-man tag matches as of late. The next time The Addiction and the Briscoes face each other -- Sept. 28 at the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view in Las Vegas -- the ROH World Tag Team Titles will be on the line.
