New ROH World Television Champion Crowned In Dallas

Punishment Martinez has been on a path of destruction from the moment he stepped foot in Ring of Honor, and at State of The Art: Dallas (watch now) on June 16, that path was paved with gold. Martinez captured the ROH World Television Title to become a champion for the first time in ROH.

First, Martinez emerged victorious in a Proving Ground Six-Man Mayhem Instant Reward Match that also involved Silas Young, Adam Page, Jonathan Gresham, Scorpio Sky and Cheeseburger to earn an immediate shot at Young’s ROH World Television Title. Martinez went on to pin Young to win the championship after hitting a South of Heaven Chokeslam.

The shocking title change again proved that anything can happen at an ROH live event. The question now is whether the ROH World Television Title will be on the line at the Best in the World pay-per-view June 29 when Martinez faces Adam Page.

Martinez and Page have engaged in a violent rivalry as of late, and it was no surprise that they targeted each other during the match in Dallas. At one point, Page suplexed Martinez through a table outside the ring.

Page appeared to be on the verge of winning the match after hitting the Rite of Passage on Cheeseburger, but Martinez connected with a stomp on Page and followed with a South of Heaven Chokeslam on Cheeseburger for the victory. As Martinez stood in the ring prior to his match against Young, Page had some words for “The Creeper of Violence” before making his way to the back.

Martinez has been on a steady climb in ROH ever since he debuted with the company in the 2016 Top Prospect Tournament. In November 2017, he won the Survival of the Fittest Tournament, scoring a pinfall victory over former ROH World Champion Jay Lethal along the way.

With his combination of size, strength, and agility -- not to mention a sadistic streak -- Martinez has all the tools to be a dominant champion, but he now has a bull’s-eye on his back and no shortage of worthy challengers, including Page.
