Male Wrestler Of The Year: Jonathan Gresham

For the second year in a row, Jonathan Gresham was voted Male Wrestler of the Year in ROH. Was there ever any doubt?

In 2021, Gresham picked up right where he left off in 2020, as he continued to prove that he is the best pure professional wrestler in the sport.

Gresham, who won the ROH Pure Title in October 2020, held the championship for nearly a year before losing it to Josh Woods at Death Before Dishonor in September.

Gresham made six successful defenses of the Pure Title in 2021, including against fellow Foundation members Jay Lethal and Rhett Titus.

After losing the title, Gresham declared that he was coming after the ROH World Championship. He scored convincing victories over Brody King and Dragon Lee heading into a scheduled match against ROH World Champion Bandido at Final Battle: End of an Era on Dec. 11.

When Bandido tested positive for COVID-19 two days before the show, Lethal – who had recently signed with AEW – took his place. The winner of the match between Gresham and Lethal would be awarded the original ROH World Title belt.

Gresham defeated “The Franchise of ROH’ to end this era of the company as its standard-bearer.
