Legendary NWA World Champion Harley Race Passes Away

Ring of Honor is saddened to learn that legendary pro wrestler Harley Race has died due to complications from lung cancer. He was 76.

Race, one of pro wrestling’s biggest stars in the ‘70s and ‘80s, won the NWA World Championship eight times (second only to Ric Flair) and defended it around the globe. A member of multiple Halls of Fame, Race had a well-deserved reputation for being one of the toughest and most talented in-ring competitors of his generation.

He went on to open the Harley Race Wrestling Academy after his in-ring career ended. Current ROH star Beer City Bruiser and former ROH star Tomasso Ciampa were both trained by Race.

ROH was privileged to have Race as a special guest at Glory by Honor VI in Manhattan in 2007.

ROH extends its deepest condolences to Harley Race’s family, friends and fans.
