King and Taven Shine in Grand Prix, Gordon Competes in One Week

Last weekend, Ring of Honor stars Kenny King and The Kingdom’s Matt Taven represented Ring of Honor and the United States in historic Arena Mexico in CMLL’s International Grand Prix! The International Grand Prix featured eight of the world’s very best taking on eight of Mexico’s best in an eight-on-eight elimination match to determine international supremacy!

For King, who will face KUSHIDA at Death Before Dishonor in his hometown of Las Vegas for the ROH World Television Title on Friday September 22 live on Pay Per View, it was an experience he will never forget. King had a strong showing as one of the few international competitors that was cheered but ultimately came up short in what was an absolutely wild encounter.

Taven, who came into the International Grand Prix 7-2 in his most recent visits to Mexico, was a marked man from the start, as his rule breaking methods of winning matches and disrespectful actions, such as attempting and, in some cases, succeed in ripping off masks had not earned him many fans among the CMLL faithful or stars. After surviving one of the most devastating Super Devil’s Wings Mephisto has ever delivered, Taven rebounded and showcased his own high-risk offense, taking to the air to deliver his signature tope con giro and a frog splash to eliminate Mephisto.

But the disputes between Taven and his enemies still run long and deep and his rivalry with the legendary Ultimo Guerrero will seemingly never be resolved! A few minutes after Taven and Volador Jr. collided, Taven and Guerrero couldn’t keep their fists off of one another! Taven’s hubris allowed Guerrero to hit his signature inverted superplex, the Guerrero Special, for the win!

The Grand Prix was won by a man Taven has both teamed with and defeated in tag team action, Diamante Azul! It remains to be seen if Taven will challenge Azul.

With King and Taven’s impressive performances in the books, CMLL welcomes ROH Star Flip Gordon to compete in CMLL’s 84th Anniversary event on September 16! With the relationship between ROH and CMLL stronger than ever, you never know which CMLL stars you will see compete in ROH and which ROH stars you will see in CMLL!
