Bandido had been in ROH for 2½ years before he finally received his first shot at the ROH World Title, at the Best in the World pay-per-view on July 11.
That night, at ROH’s first show in front of a live crowd since Feb. 2020, Bandido proved that all he needed was one opportunity.
Bandido entered the match against two-time ROH World Champion RUSH as the underdog, but he rose to the occasion and captured the title in a thrilling bout that electrified the fans.
The sensational luchador ended RUSH’s 498-day reign and handed him just his second pinfall loss since debuting in ROH in December 2018. Bandido is the first masked wrestler to win the championship.
He also was named Wrestler of the Month for June, thanks to winning the Survival of the Fittest tournament to earn the title shot at Best in the World. Bandido is the only two-time winner of Wrestler of the Month thus far in 2021.
