Dante Caballero, Austin Gunn Clash In Top Prospect Tournament Semifinal In Chicago

Two young competitors with contrasting personalities will square off in a Top Prospect Tournament semifinal match at Global Wars Espectacular in Chicago on Sept. 7.

The matchup pits Dante Caballero, an arrogant, entitled individual with a win-at-all-costs mentality, against Austin Gunn, a second-generation wrestler who embraces what Ring of Honor stands for and is determined to create his own path in the sport.

Caballero defeated Joe Keys to advance to the semifinals, while Gunn, the son of Hall of Famer Billy Gunn, knocked off “Number One” Brian Johnson, the self-proclaimed No. 1 seed in the eight-man tournament.

In the other semifinal, which takes place at the Global Wars Espectacular tour stop in Dearborn, Mich., on Sept. 6, Dak Draper faces Haitian Sensation. The winner of the TPT earns an ROH contract and a shot at the ROH World Television Title.

Caballero, who comes from a political dynasty in Puerto Rico, relocated to Washington, D.C., nearly four years ago to pursue a pro wrestling career. He quickly established himself as a major player in Maryland’s MCW Pro Wrestling, one of the top independent promotions in the country. Caballero is the reigning MCW Heavyweight Champion, a title has has held for more than 400 days. He furthered his training at the ROH Dojo.

Gunn began training under his father at the Team 3D Academy after graduating from Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., in 2017. He made his pro wrestling debut after just two months of training, teaming with his father on an independent show in Georgia in a three-on-two handicap match, which the Gunns won. In just his fifth match, Gunn competed in a battle royal before a crowd of 11,623 at the All In pay-per-view in Chicago. Like Caballero, Gunn has continued his training at the ROH Dojo.

Past TPT winners include current ROH World Champion Matt Taven, and TPT alumni include former ROH World Champions Dalton Castle, Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly, as well as Silas Young, Adam Page, Jonathan Gresham and Punishment Martinez, among others.
