VILLA PARK, Ill. -- The War of the Worlds tour concluded on May 12 at the Odeum Expo Center, and the ROH World Tag Team Titles are still in the possession of New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Guerrillas of Destiny.
In a match streamed live exclusively for Honor Club between bitter rivals G.O.D. (Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa) and the Briscoes, G.O.D retained the ROH World Tag Team Titles in a brutal encounter with a controversial ending.
Jay and Mark Briscoe, who were seeking their 11th ROH World Tag Team Championship, set up for the Doomsday Device on Tonga, but Loa shoved Mark off the top turnbuckle, and he came down crotch-first on the top rope. Tonga raked the eyes of Jay Briscoe to escape Jay’s grasp.
As the referee checked on Mark Briscoe, Tonga shoved Jay Briscoe into Loa, who nailed him in the head with one of the championship belts. Tonga rolled up Jay and grabbed a handful of tights to secure the victory after more than 17 minutes of hard-hitting action.
Earlier in the match, Mark Briscoe kicked out of a Magic Killer and a top rope headbutt/splash combination.
G.O.D., who also are the reigning, five-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, captured the ROH World Tag Team Titles in a winner-take-all four-way match at G1 Supercard at Madison Square Garden on April 6 that also involved the Briscoes, then-ROH World Tag Team Champions PCO and Brody King and Los Ingobernables de Japon EVIL and SANADA.
Is this the end of the feud between the two violent, heavily decorated teams? Or did the controversial finish only add fuel to an already raging fire?
