ROH Debut
06/14/2003 Night of Grudges
Whether in singles or tag team competition, Chris Sabin has been dazzling fans and winning championships all over the world throughout his career.
Sabin and fellow Detroit native Alex Shelley, collectively known as The Motor City Machine Guns, have formed one of the top tag teams of the past decade.
Sabin started his path to Ring of Honor after extensive training on the Michigan and Canadian independent scene.
He made his ROH debut at Night of The Grudges in 2003 in a four-way match against Homicide, Justin Credible and John Walters. With his flashy in-ring style, Sabin created an immediate buzz and went on to have memorable matches against Christopher Daniels, Low Ki and Amazing Red.
Sabin and Shelley first joined forces in 2006 in Japan’s Pro Wrestling Zero1-Max, where they captured the promotion’s International Lightweight Tag Team Championship and successfully defended it for more than a year and a half.
They began teaming in ROH in 2007 and found great success as a unit there as well as in other promotions in the U.S. and Japan.
In 2009, The Motor City Machine Guns defeated Tetsuya Naito and Yujiro to win the prestigious IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom III in the Tokyo Dome. The following year, Sabin and Shelley were named Tag Team of the Year byPro Wrestling Illustrated.
After amicably parting ways with Shelley in 2012, Sabin focused on his singles career and became a heavyweight champion for the first time. He also won a record-breaking seventh X Division title.
In 2015, mysterious hacker videos began airing on ROH television that showed three masked men who referred to themselves as The Knights of The Rising Dawn.
The trio talked about how they had influenced the growth of ROH whether it was from close or afar, and they would no longer sit back and watch. KRD made good on their threats by interfering in key matches.
Sabin and The Addiction (Daniels and Frankie Kazarian) eventually revealed that they were KRD. Shortly thereafter, Sabin defeated Kyle O’Reilly (thanks to an assist from The Addiction) in Sabin’s first match back in ROH.
During the latter part of 2015, another man in a KRD mask showed up in ROH, only this time The Addiction were on the receiving end of the mystery man’s interference. It turned out that it was Shelley under the mask.
During a match between Shelley and Daniels on the ROH 14th Anniversary pay-per-view in February 2016, Sabin neutralized an interfering Kazarian, allowing Shelley to pick up the victory.
Sabin and Shelley embraced after the match to make the reunion of The Motor City Machine Guns official.
