Yes, “The Peacock” can put on a show, but once the bell rings, the former amateur wrestling standout most definitely can go.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Having steadily worked his way up the ranks, Castle now finds himself as the No. 1 contender to the richest prize in the sport—the ROH World Championship. <a href="">Castle will get his opportunity to make history when he challenges ROH World Champion Cody at the Final Battle pay-per-view on December 15 live from NYC!</a></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Castle is riding a wave of momentum heading into the marquee event. Over the past month, he has defeated some of the biggest names in ROH, including Cody’s Bullet Club brethren Marty Scurll and Adam Page, as well as former ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Castle also won the Soaring Eagle Cup one-night tournament on Oct. 28 at Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. He defeated Flip Gordon in a first-round match and then emerged victorious in an elimination match over Silas Young, Frankie Kazarian and Matt Taven.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>In recent tag team competition, Castle joined forces with Jay Lethal to defeat The Young Bucks, and in six-man action, Castle, Lethal and ROH World Television Champion Kenny King beat The Elite’s Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The issue between Castle and Cody goes beyond the championship, as things between the two got intensely personal right from the outset.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>During the War of the Worlds UK tour in August, Cody stood in the ring and declared that he had defeated everyone and there was no one left for him to face. To Cody’s surprise, Castle came out and issued a challenge to the champion, but the challenge was left unanswered—at least not immediately. So offended, or perhaps threatened, by the prospect of Castle’s challenge, Cody viciously attacked Castle backstage the following night, injuring Castle’s shoulder and temporarily putting him out of action.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Much to Cody’s dismay, Castle came back determined to get Cody in the ring with the title on the line. At the Global Wars: Chicago last month, Cody invited a fan wearing an American flag ski mask into the ring to shoot a video with him for Bullet Club’s popular “Being The Elite” YouTube series. That masked “fan” turned out to be Castle, who briefly beat-down Cody before the stunned champion managed to slip away.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>After that, Cody did his best to avoid having to defend his title against Castle, but Castle’s persistence has paid off. He got a taste of championship gold when he and The Boys held the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team titles for a couple months over the summer, and now he is a three count away at Final Battle from becoming ROH World Champion.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>With all sights set on Dalton Castle’s biggest opportunity next month in NYC, the ROH Pro Shop has just released his “fantastic” ugly holiday sweater! <a href="">Show your support for “The Peacock” and take advantage of the ROH Black Friday Weekend Sale which includes 25% off the sweater and free US Shipping on orders over $100.</a> Ringside Members also receive an extra 15% off all merchandise year-round!</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Will Dalton Castle bookend Ring Of Honor’s most successful year with his own career-defining moment? <a href="">Find out LIVE on Friday, December 15th from NYC on Pay-Per-View at FINAL BATTLE!</a></div> Sat, 25 Nov 2017 05:01:00 +0000 Chris Hall 554006 at ROH Black Friday Weekend Sales <div class="field field-sub-title"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Special 1 day only Bullet Club Sale on Friday! </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-news-photo"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/media/photos/black-friday-2017-sales">black-friday-2017-sales</a> </div> </div> </div> <div>Thanksgiving is a time to relax, reflect, and spend quality time with the people you care about most. I quickly packed my bags and killed my alarm to avoid waking up Colt Cabana. A few quick texts and the rental SUV was loaded up and headed to Will Rogers Airport.&nbsp;<div>&nbsp;</div><div>We were all thankful for the weekend that was behind us and thankful for the week ahead.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>With sellouts in San Antonio and Dallas and a new, first-time venue in Oklahoma City with a hot crowd, The Best Wrestling on the Planet concluded a stretch of five huge events in ten days. Throughout the locker room, we were all quietly aware and appreciative of this moment, a moment in time where Ring of Honor is as big as it has ever been, growing as fast as it has ever grown with the best young and experienced talent converging from the US and around the globe to create a professional wrestling organization built for 2018 and beyond.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>And we wouldn’t be where we are today without you, the fans.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>You line up hours before doors open, drive sellouts now weeks in advance, buy our t-shirts, and meet our stars. You choose with your dollars but more importantly choose with the connections made in your hearts and minds with the ROH stars.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>You chant for the two most under-appreciated and hardest working men in ROH, Todd Sinclair and Paul Turner, in between matches and have signs for the newest of stars as they arrive. You respectfully greet us in airports and give us space to eat but make us feel like a million bucks when you tell us how much you enjoyed being at the event. You are a part of the family that ROH World Champion Cody speaks of when he takes the mic after giving it his all, putting his opponent through a flaming table in a match that meant so much to him and his opponent even though it was not aired on television or Pay Per View. You appreciate and applaud the international stars from CMLL, New Japan, and RevPro that compete in our ROH rings.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Ring of Honor is not where it is without you. And while I could list a thousand more reasons why ROH is thankful for you, I want to list a few that come straight from my heart.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>I’ve become nostalgic the last few weeks. My family and I moved to Allentown, PA a few weeks ago. It isn’t easy to pack up and move everything, especially with a one-year-old. But, being married to the strongest, most patient woman of all time has its perks, and when she suggests you move back home, you take it seriously.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>We live in our dream house now. By most standards, it is modest but we hope to live here for the rest of our lives. We hope Zach grows up to be the man we know he can become in this house and that he one day becomes the best big brother he can.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Because of the timing of the move, my mind has been scattered the past few weeks but it was you, the ROH fans, that have helped recalibrate it. And that wasn’t any more apparent than in Florida.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>On his Art of Wrestling Podcast, my colleague and friend Colt Cabana shared a similar story. Colt lost his grandmother right before we were to be in Florida. With both of our minds scattered, we embarked on something ambitious: raising money for Puerto Rico.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>I had the option of returning home. Colt is a hero in his hometown of Chicago. For many of the folks of Puerto Rico, that option is an altered one. Still without necessities like power, clean drinking water, and clean clothes, Colt and I hoped to raise money to return a bit of normalcy even to just one survivor of the devastating hurricanes that rocked the island territory.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>With the help of Rocky Romero, Bobby Cruise, and Cody, who donated signed posters and Bullet Club memorabilia, we exceeded our internal goal of $500. In fact, we tripled it. Because of you, we raised and immediately donated $1,550 to Unidos Por Puerto Rico, an organization that uses 100% of all donations for immediate relief. Some gave in exchange to take a photo with us and to receive a signed 8x10 but others gave for nothing in return. Your generosity warmed our hearts and I have never been happier, and more thankful, to be able to participate in something like this.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>On those nights in Fort Lauderdale and Lakeland, we found out just how thankful we are to have our fans.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>As Ring of Honor continues to grow, we hope to never lose the feelings that fans felt in the Murphy Rec Center—the feeling of seeing something they wouldn’t see anywhere else that featured the very best professional wrestlers in the world and the feeling that they could make real connections to the wrestling stars they are seeing in the ring. As we continue to grow and fill larger buildings with fans like you, we hope to engage in more of these events to connect in more, new, and different ways.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>I formulated these thoughts on the plane and as the plane landed, I quickly turned on my phone to text my wife that I had landed. One of the first things I told her about was how thankful I was for the big crowds and how thankful I was that so many of you, the fans, had seen the tongue-in-cheek graphic welcoming me back in Dallas.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Thanksgiving is my favorite time of year. As my family and extended family grows, we are happy and healthy. We have roofs over our heads and more than we could ask for. But what is really neat about this Thanksgiving is that it is my first in the lead announcer role, my first spending time with you each and every week when you choose to watch ROH or order our DVDs, VODs, and PPVs. In addition to the many thanks I have to give this year, one of the biggest is to you, the fans. It has been the biggest year in ROH history and the biggest in my professional career and for that, I am very grateful.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Happy Wrestling and Happy Thanksgiving.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Sincerely,</div><div>Ian</div><div class="grammarly-disable-indicator">&nbsp;</div><div class="grammarly-disable-indicator">&nbsp;</div> Wed, 22 Nov 2017 16:43:42 +0000 Chris Hall 553226 at Punishment Martinez Wins Survival of the Fittest <div class="field field-news-photo"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/media/photos/sotf-punishment">sotf-punishment</a> </div> </div> </div> <div>The demonic Punishment Martinez has been striking fear into opponents since he made his Ring of Honor debut last year. But at this past weekend’s Survival of the Fittest events, Martinez showed everyone just how scary good he truly is, as he won the Survival of the Fittest tournament and scored a career-defining victory along the way.</div><div><!--break--></div><div><br />On Survival of the Fittest Night 1 in San Antonio, Texas, the 6-foot-7 “Creeper of Violence” defeated Jay Lethal, the former ROH World Champion and two-time ROH World Television Champion who rightfully is regarded as ROH’s franchise player.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Then, on Night 3 in Oklahoma City, Okla., Martinez put on a dominant performance as he emerged victorious in the Survival of the Fittest six-way elimination match, outlasting Silas Young, Shane Taylor, Matt Taven, Jonathan Gresham and Flip Gordon. Martinez eliminated Gresham, Young and Gordon in succession.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>With the win, Martinez earned a future shot at the ROH World Title, a development that will likely cause nightmares for ROH World Champion “The American Nightmare” Cody -- or whoever will be champion when Martinez is standing across the ring.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>“All I've wanted is to break and punish the best. Now that I'm the survivor of the fittest, I get to do just that,” Martinez told “Lethal has been on the top of my anarchy list, so it was very satisfying beating him. After I take the world champion south of heaven, all are welcome to enter my Ring of Anarchy. Prepare to be punished!”</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Martinez, who has a freakish combination of size, power, athleticism and agility, has added his name to an impressive list of Survival of the Fittest winners that includes former ROH World Champions Bryan Danielson, Roderick Strong, Tyler Black, Eddie Edwards, Michael Elgin, Lethal and Adam Cole.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>While Martinez has secured a shot at the ROH World Title, he also has the ROH World Television Title in his sights. He defeated Josh Woods recently to earn a spot in the Four Corner Survival Match for the TV title at the Final Battle pay-per-view on Dec. 15.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Martinez, who has used his devastating South of Heaven finisher to rack up one victory after another, has been trending upward in ROH from the moment he arrived in the company. Danielson had a well-deserved reputation for being one of the greatest technical and submission wrestlers in the world, but he also proved that his wrestling ability was matched only by his toughness. During an ROH World Title defense against Colt Cabana in 2006, Danielson suffered a separated shoulder early in the match but he fought through the pain and ended up going to a 60-minute draw. In a match against then-ROH World Champion Takeshi Morishima in 2007, Danielson suffered a detached retina from a punch to his eye, but he competed for another 15 minutes before he was defeated.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img alt="" src="" style="height: 323px; width: 650px;" /></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>4. He won the ROH World Championship the first time in a tournament after the title had been vacated by Jay Briscoe due to an injury. Cole defeated Mark Briscoe and Jay Lethal in the first two rounds before beating Michael Elgin in the finals. Cole’s final reign as ROH World Champion was historic not only because he became the company’s only three-time world champion, but also because the match took place in Tokyo, Japan at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 11, marking the only time the title has changed hands outside of North America.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img alt="" src="" style="height: 323px; width: 650px;" /></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>3. It also remains the longest world title reign in a U.S.-based wrestling company since Ric Flair held the NWA World Heavyweight Title for 793 days in 1984-86. During Joe’s reign, “The Samoan Submission Machine” engaged in a classic series of title defenses against CM Punk. They wrestled to two 60-minute draws, and in their other meeting, Joe scored the victory. Joe made his much-anticipated return to ROH in 2015 after a seven-year absence, but he came up short in his match against then-ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe at Supercard of Honor IX.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img alt="" src="" style="height: 323px; width: 650px;" /></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>2. The London native won the latter title by defeating Samoa Joe. During his reign as ROH World Champion, McGuinness successfully defended the title against the likes of Bryan Danielson, Kevin Steen, Tyler Black, El Generico and Claudio Castagnoli. McGuinness, who went on to serve as ROH matchmaker and color commentator for “Ring of Honor Wrestling” for several years after his in-ring career ended, had a longstanding rivalry with Danielson over the ROH World and Pure titles that produced a number of classic matches.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img alt="" src="" style="height: 323px; width: 650px;" /></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>1. He is the only man to hold the ROH World and ROH World TV titles simultaneously, as well as the only man to hold all three ROH singles titles. His second reign as ROH World TV Champion lasted a record 567 days, and his 798 combined days as ROH World TV Champion is a record as well. Lethal also owns the fourth-longest ROH World Title reign, at 427 days. One of Lethal’s most high-profile successful title defenses occurred at Final Battle on Dec. 18, 2015, when he defeated AJ Styles. Given the fact that Lethal is just entering his prime, it’s highly likely “The Greatest First Generation Wrestler has more title reigns in his future.</div><div class="grammarly-disable-indicator">&nbsp;</div><div class="grammarly-disable-indicator">&nbsp;</div> Tue, 21 Nov 2017 21:36:49 +0000 Chris Hall 552901 at ROH Recap: Shocking Development with Bully Ray and Briscoes! <div class="field field-news-photo"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/media/photos/ep322">ep322</a> </div> </div> </div> <!--break--><div><strong>Matt Taven (w/Vinny Marseglia and TK O’Ryan) vs. Jay White</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Rather than adhere to the Code of Honor, Taven slugged White in the face, immediately setting the tone for what would be a hard-hitting bout between two aggressive competitors. Cheeseburger started with a flurry of offense and stunned Taylor with the Shotay. When Cheeseburger tried to follow up, however, Taylor grabbed him and delivered a bone-jarring chokeslam. Taylor arrogantly covered Cheeseburger with one foot, but Cheeseburger got his shoulder up. Taylor mercifully ended it shortly thereafter, pinning Cheeseburger after a KO punch.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The Dawgs (Rhett Titus and Will Ferrara) came down to the ring after the match and offered Taylor a tall pint of pennies to take out Cheeseburger for good. Taylor, who has made it known that he’s a gun for hire, poured the pennies on Ferrara’s head. Rejected by Taylor, The Dawgs decided they would do their own dirty work, but Taylor stepped in front of them and would not allow them to touch Cheeseburger.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Silas Young on Facing Jonathan Gresham Next Week in TV Title Contenders Series</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Young said that he is going to take advantage of his opportunity to earn a shot at the ROH World Television Title. Sky said he’s in.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Adam Page vs. Dalton Castle</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>ROH World Champion Cody, who will defend his title against Castle at Final Battle, sat in on commentary. Before the opening bell, Cody left the announce table to speak with Page, but Castle abruptly cut that conversation short by diving through the ropes onto Page. And the match was underway.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Page survived Castle’s initial assault and gained the advantage after hitting a spectacular moonsault off the top onto Castle on the floor. Castle proved resilient, however, and he appeared on his way to victory after hitting the Bang-a-Rang on Page. Cody, however, broke up the pin by pulling the referee out of the ring.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>As Castle chased Cody around the ring, Page hit a Shooting Star Press off the apron to stun Castle. After the action returned to inside the ring, Castle got too close to the ropes and was grabbed by Cody, who had hopped up on the apron. Page charged at Castle, but Castle moved and Page inadvertently nailed Cody.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Castle immediately hit a German suplex on Page and followed up with a top wristlock submission maneuver. Page tapped out, giving the hard-fought victory to Castle.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>After the match, as Castle and Cody exchanged words, Page chop-blocked Castle from behind. As Page held Castle, Cody used the huge ring on his finger to punch Castle in the face. After Castle fell to the mat, Cody held the ring to Castle’s mouth to symbolically have him kiss the ring.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Bully Ray Addresses the Philadelphia Crowd</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Standing in the ring inside the historic 2300 Arena, Bully Ray said that before the doors opened for the show he went out on the street to remind himself that he never forgot where he came from. An “E-C-W” chant broke out, and Bully Ray said he’s proud of those letters, but he’s just as proud of “R-O-H.”</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Bully said, “It’s time,” in regard to the end of his career as an in-ring competitor. He said he’s still under contract with ROH and hopes to stick around and help the younger guys. He said he truly believes in ROH the same way he believed in ECW, and then he thanked the fans, saying, “I love each and every last one of you.”</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The fans gave Bully a standing ovation. ROH COO Joe Koff entered the ring and thanked Bully for all that he’s done for ROH. Koff said Bully is more than welcome to stay with the company and share his knowledge.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Jay Briscoe, who had hit Bully in the head with a table during a match in which they were teammates at Death Before Dishonor two months ago -- a blow that caused Bully’s career-ending concussion -- came down to the ring. He taunted Bully, hurling vulgarities at him and knocking the ROH cap off Bully’s head.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Bully was ready to fight, but Koff stepped in and tried to calm him down. Briscoe then spit on Bully, which incensed Koff, who shoved Briscoe. Fortunately, before Briscoe could retaliate, ROH officials hit the ring and got Koff out of harm’s way.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Briscoe then nailed Bully from behind with a clubbing blow and grabbed a chair. Before Briscoe could do further damage, ECW legend and Bully’s best friend Tommy Dreamer came out. But instead of fulfilling contractual obligations, the Briscoes stayed close to home. On Saturday night, the duo shocked the world at House of Hardcore 35. Tommy Dreamer was competing in the main event of the evening when Shane Douglas turned his back on him. The Sandman hit the ring to make the save and cleared the ring. But when he turned his back, that is when the chaos started.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The Briscoes, who were supposed to be in Dallas, TX, emerged with faces covered waving a Sandy Fork Versus Everybody flag. The Briscoes left Dreamer bloodied and battered, knowing Bully Ray was nowhere to be found to make a save.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>After days careful deliberation, ROH officials have decided to let fans see for themselves the cowardly actions that took place. Amongst the items on the curriculum are videotaping personal interviews as well as sample promos. We will also be watching each attendee work out in the ring. There will be exhibition matches that will be critiqued in detail.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Not only are promos and in-ring technique covered but conditioning, appearance, mindset and potential will also be evaluated.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>We will get a complete look at the talent, and then detail for them either what they’re doing right, or what they need to improve on to make it to Ring of Honor and become an all-around better wrestler. The fee covers both days and there are no refunds issued if you don’t attend both days.
