The official signing of this contract will take place tonight at the ROH Television Tapings at Sam’s Town in Las Vegas and it will air in October.</p><p>Just one month ago on Dinner with The King (Jerry Lawler’s Podcast), Cody stated “Ring of Honor hates the fact that I genuinely remained a free agent; I did not sign a contract with them. I signed on for various dates, and I have many dates left with them. I really like Ring of Honor. But I’m not going to be exclusive anywhere. I did exclusive.” After much deliberation, the hottest free agent in professional wrestling has had a change of heart.</p><p>When asked about this, Cody said "I grew up in this business, I've seen its peaks and valleys...I know we are entering an unprecedented time in pro wrestling/sports entertainment and it’s time to put my flag in the sand. Joe Koff and his team put together such a generous offer...with some non-wrestling projects on the horizon that I hope to announce soon, and the potential of starting a family down the was a perfect fit. Myself, Marty Scurll, Hangman Page, Matt and Nick's the dream the 1992 dream team. I have several goals in mind for myself and for ROH and I can't wait to get started."</p><p>The exact terms and length of the deal cannot be disclosed, but it is the most generous offer in Ring of Honor history and Cody will be in an ROH ring for the next several years. Cody will still be able to compete internationally around the world while calling ROH his home base. He will also continue to work with New Japan Pro Wrestling who has a partnership with ROH.</p><p>Ring of Honor General Manager Greg Gilleland said, "When Cody first started competing in ROH, we knew we wanted him to be exclusive, but respected his wishes to try out the rest of the industry. Finalizing this deal is another big step in his career and a great step in the continued development of the Ring of Honor brand, delivering the best, real professional wrestling to a rapidly growing and the most passionate fanbase around the world."</p><p>In addition to his in-ring activities, Cody’s brand continues to grow with recent appearances on the CW hit series ARROW opposite Stephen Amell playing the character Derek Sampson and several non-wrestling projects on the horizon. Cody is also a collaborator at the Nocking Point Winery and has his American Nightmare t-shirts in Hot Topics throughout the US and Canada.</p> Sun, 24 Sep 2017 01:02:10 +0000 Chris Hall 532836 at MULTIPLE TITLE CHANGES, A SHOCKING UPSET, AND AN ALLIANCE SHATTERED AT DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR <div class="field field-news-photo"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/media/photos/dbd-news">dbd-news</a> </div> </div> </div> <div>The best wrestling on the planet descended upon Sin City for the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view at Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas Sept. 22, and on a night filled with surprises and spectacular action, some ROH competitors hit the jackpot, while others were not so lucky.</div><div><!--break--></div><div><br />In the opening contest, Bully Ray and the Briscoes defeated The Kingdom (Matt Taven, Vinny Marseglia and TK O’Ryan) in a six-man tag match to earn a shot at ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks and Adam Page of Bullet Club later in the show. Bully Ray and the Briscoes, who have had tension between them as of late, largely due to Jay Briscoe’s temper, were on the same page for most of the match. They got the victory after Bully Ray and Mark Briscoe hit the Doomsday Device on O’Ryan. Jay Briscoe, however, looked less than thrilled that he was not involved in the execution of a finishing move that he and his brother had perfected. Jay grabbed a steel chair after the match and nailed O’Ryan with it to gain a measure of revenge on The Kingdom, whose three-on-one attack on Jay with chairs last month left him with a concussion.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Before the next match, a video from earlier in the day showed Bullet Club’s Cody, Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) and Marty Scurll arriving in Las Vegas looking for their missing Bullet Club teammate, Adam Page. Matt Jackson implored ROH fans to alert an ROH official if they see Page.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Back to live action, Scurll got Bullet Club in the win column by gaining a hard-fought victory over Chuckie T. In his first ROH singles match, “The Kentucky Gentleman” came with an eyelash of upsetting “The Villain.” Chuckie T. scored several near falls, including one in which he hit a Razor’s Edge followed by a piledriver. Scurll was fortunate to get his foot on the rope in the knick of time. The resourceful Scurll eventually escaped with the win after he pulled the referee in front of him to halt Chuckie T.’s momentum and then locked on the chicken wing, forcing Chuckie T. to submit.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Jay White and Punishment Martinez took their heated rivalry to new level of violence &nbsp;in a Las Vegas Street Fight. White took the fight to Martinez from the outset, but it was Martinez who walked out the victor. The win was Martinez’s first over White, who is the only man to have beaten him twice. White appeared to be on the verge of yet another triumph over Martinez after hitting the Kiwi Crusher, but Martinez kicked out of the finishing move. Martinez then hit White with a low blow and a devastating Last Ride onto six chairs, followed by a Psycho Driver on the chairs. Shockingly, White kicked out of Martinez’s pin attempt. But Martinez &nbsp;introduced tacks into the match, and he hit a South of Heaven chokeslam on White into the tacks for the win.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Title Match ended in controversy when Jay Briscoe finally snapped and turned on Bully Ray, which allowed The Young Bucks and Page to win the match and retain the title. The Young Bucks had come to the ring without Page, but just before the opening bell, Page -- wearing street clothes and with his mouth and hands duct-taped -- hit the ring. Bully Ray and the Briscoes took control early in the match, which led to Bully Ray calling for tables. Jay Briscoe obliged by bringing a table into the ring, but he suddenly nailed Bully Ray in the head with it. The edge of the table caught Bully Ray in the temple and knocked him out. Page entered the ring and made the cover for the win. Mark Briscoe looked stunned and upset over his brother’s actions.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Kenny King, wrestling in his hometown and with his daughter in the front row, won his first singles championship in ROH by defeating Kushida for the ROH World Television Title. King survived Kushida’s impressive offensive arsenal, including three Hoverboard Locks, before eventually hitting the Royal Flush for the biggest victory of his 15-year career. After the match, King celebrated with his daughter. Kushida, in a admirable display of respect and sportsmanship, shook both King and his daughter’s hands.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The result of a brutal Last Man Standing match between Jay Lethal and Silas Young undoubtedly shocked many ROH fans, as the violent battle ended with Young on his feet and a bloody Lethal unable to answer the 10 count. Young’s victory over the former ROH World Champion is a career-defining one for “The Last Real Man In Professional Wrestling.” &nbsp;During the match, Beer City Bruiser came out to assist Young, but his attempt to splash Lethal through a table on the floor backfired, as Lethal moved out of the way and Bruiser crashed through the table. After Lethal and Young took turns mercilessly whipping each other with a strap, the turning point in the match occurred when Lethal and referee Todd Sinclair inadvertently bumped heads. The collision busted Lethal open above his eye. The fight spilled onto the floor, where Lethal and Young exchanged blows on a ladder. Young unsuccessfully attempted to zip-tie Lethal to the ladder, but the struggle caused the ladder to tip over, sending both of them through a table. Young got to his feet just before the 10 count, but Lethal did not.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>In the second title change of the night, The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley) defeated The Young Bucks to finally win the ROH World Tag Team Title, which had eluded the highly decorated duo for years. As the two teams engaged in a fast-paced, high-flying match, The Addiction (Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian), making good on their vow to ruin whatever ROH fans like, suddenly hit the ring and attacked Sabin and Shelley. Daniels and Kazarian went on to attack the Bucks as well. Eventually, MCMG and the Bucks worked together to eliminate Daniels and Kazarian. The two-on-two contest resumed, with MCMG eventually hitting a double Falcon Arrow on Matt Jackson to win the match and the championship. After the match, the Bucks presented Sabin and Shelley with the championship belts before exiting.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>In the main event, ROH World Champion Cody successfully defended his title by pinning the dangerous Minoru Suzuki in the Japanese legend’s first match on American soil in 25 years. Suzuki, the NEVER Openweight Champion, assaulted Cody with an assortment of strikes and submission maneuvers, but the world champion proved resilient. After a series of reversals, Cody caught Suzuki with Cross Rhodes and pinned him. While Suzuki was still feeling the effects of the move after the match, a disrespectful Cody put his prized championship ring on his finger and pressed the ring to the helpless Suzuki’s lips.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><a href="">Don’t miss your chance to witness this amazing event by catching the replay of the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view!</a></div><div>&nbsp;</div> Sat, 23 Sep 2017 12:06:02 +0000 Chris Hall 532651 at ROH Brings Supercard of Honor XII to New Orleans on Saturday April 7th <div class="field field-sub-title"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Tickets go on sale 10/4 for Ringside Members and 10/6 for the General Public </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-news-photo"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/media/photos/supercard-xii-rotor">supercard-xii-rotor</a> </div> </div> </div> <!--break--><div>Honor Nation, as Summer turns to Fall, Ring of Honor sets its sights on closing its biggest year with a series of landmark events. Romero immediately countered Scurll’s counter and hooked on the Diablo Armbar again. Scurll managed to deadlift Romero and hit him with a buckle bumble followed by a dropkick for a near fall. After Scurll missed a moonsault, Romero hit a running Shining Wizard for a near fall. Romero then applied the Diablo Armbar a third time. Scurll got his foot on the rope, and the referee called for a break. Romero thought Scurll had tapped, and Scurll took advantage of Romero briefly letting his guard down. The Kingdom gained the advantage and isolated Mark, but Mark eventually tagged in Jay, who cleaned house. Marseglia brought a chair in the ring while the referee was distracted, but Mark prevented him from using it on Jay. Jay set up for the Jay Driller on the chair, but the referee removed the chair before Jay could execute the move. Later, O’Ryan hit a low blow on Jay that was out of the referee’s view. He then hit a neckbreaker, and Marseglia followed with a senton bomb for a near fall. O’Ryan brought in his bat and swung at Mark, but Mark ducked. Jay hit the Jay Driller on O’Ryan, and Mark -- the legal man -- made the cover for the win. He said Jay Briscoe has been a little crazy as of late, but at the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view on Sept. 22 in Las Vegas, he and Jay and Mark Briscoe will be on the same page. Bully Ray said they will beat The Kingdom and go on to regain the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Titles later that night against Bullet Club’s Young Bucks and Adam Page.</div><div><strong>Will Ferrara Vows “World of Hurt” For Cheeseburger</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Ferrara said that every time Cheeseburger dropped the ball it negatively affected him, and he can’t progress with Cheeseburger in his way. “The only thing left for you in Ring of Honor is a world of hurt,” Ferrara said of his former friend and tag team partner.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Cheeseburger vs. Will Ferrara</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>While Cheeseburger waited in the ring for Ferrara to make his entrance, Ferrara hit the ring from the other side and attacked him from behind before the bell. Cheeseburger was ready for it, however, and he was all over Ferrara in the early going. Ferrara eventually gained the upper hand and appeared to have the victory secured after hitting a flatliner, but Cheeseburger managed to kick out, which stunned Ferrara and pleasantly surprised an enthusiastic pro-Cheeseburger crowd. Cheeseburger rallied and hit a tombstone piledriver, but Ferrara proved equally resilient by kicking out. Cheeseburger followed up with a double stomp off the top rope and made a cover, but Ferrara got his foot on the bottom rope at the last second. Ferrara halted Cheeseburger’s momentum with a wicked clothesline and then choked him out for the submission win. After the match, Ferrara applied the chokehold again, but Rhett Titus came out to break it up. A brief shoving match between Ferrara and Titus ensued before they both took turns putting the boots to Cheeseburger. Was this the formation of a new alliance between Ferrara and Titus, or do they just share a dislike of Cheeseburger?</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Coleman’s Pulpit Is Ready To Go</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Caprice Coleman stood on his new set for Coleman’s Pulpit and said ROH management must have been impressed with his interview with The Addiction last week. Coleman said he will ask the questions other interviews are afraid to ask, and he encouraged fans to send in questions using “#ColemansPulpit” that they would like him to ask on future installments of his show.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Jay Lethal vs. Silas Young In Last Man Standing Match Announced For Death Before Dishonor</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>After the brutal street fight between Lethal and Young in Edinburgh, Scotland during ROH’s War of the Worlds UK Tour last month ended with both men requiring medical attention, a Last Man Standing Match between the two bitters rivals has been signed for Death Before Dishonor.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Silas Young (w/Beer City Bruiser) vs. Cauliflower Chase Brown</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>“The Last Real Man in Professional Wrestling” made quick work of Brown, as he hit Misery for a decisive victory. After the match, Young mounted Brown and repeatedly punched him. Lethal came out to make the save and went after Young, but security got between them, allowing Young to retreat to the stage. Lethal challenged Young to get back in the ring to settle things now instead of waiting for Death Before Dishonor. Young declined, saying that Lethal is used to getting everything he wants, but he’s going to wait until the pay-per-view so that everyone can see that he deserves all the opportunities that are given to Lethal. Young said he will be the “last real man standing.”</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Marty Scurll Accepts Challenge For Death Before Dishonor</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Scurll, who was sitting in on commentary this week, officially accepted the challenge of “The Kentucky Gentleman” Chuckie T. for a match at Death Before Dishonor.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Backstage Interview With ROH World Champion Cody</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Cody was asked for his thoughts regarding his upcoming defense of the ROH World Title against the dangerous Minoru Suzuki at Death Before Dishonor. Cody said he has done everything possible to prepare for the match, and he questioned if Suzuki can say the same. When asked if he was having second thoughts about issuing an open challenge since Suzuki ended up being the one who answered it, Cody said he doesn’t regret it one bit. Cody concluded the interview by making backstage correspondent Matt Sells kiss his ring.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Video Highlight: Bullet Club Attacks Dalton Castle in UK</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>During the War of the Worlds UK Tour in Edinburgh, Bullet Club (The Young Bucks, Page and Scurll) came across a despondent Castle in the hallway of the arena. They taunted Castle about him and The Boys losing the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Title to the Bucks and Page earlier that night. After Bullet Club exited, Cody came up behind Castle and attacked him. The night before in Liverpool, Castle confronted Cody in the ring and said he wanted an ROH World Title shot. Apparently, this was Cody’s response. Cody threw Castle out of the arena and continued to assault him. Satisfied with the beat-down, Cody called Castle a “novelty act” and exited.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Search &amp; Destroy (Motor City Machine Guns, Jay White and Jonathan Gresham) vs. Bullet Club (Young Bucks and Guerrillas of Destiny)</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Bullet Club controlled the action early, but a brief miscommunication between G.O.D.’s Tama Tonga and Tanga Roa allowed Search &amp; Destroy to gain the upper hand. The two innovative quartets went on to trade &nbsp;high-flying and high-impact maneuvers at a furious pace. Bullet Club regained the advantage and set up for the Meltzer Driver on MCMG’s Chris Sabin. White, however, yanked Nick Jackson off the apron to prevent it. Sabin and Alex Shelley then hit a series of doubleteam moves on Matt Jackson to finish him off and pick up a huge, statement-making victory. MCMG now has a lot of momentum heading into their title match against ROH World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks at Death Before Dishonor.</div> Tue, 12 Sep 2017 15:28:12 +0000 Chris Hall 529331 at
