RECENT NEWS ROH Latest News Feed en Deonna Purrazzo to Compete in the WOH Championship Tournament <div class="field field-news-photo"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/media/photos/deonna-bio3">deonna-bio3</a> </div> </div> </div> <div>“The Virtuosa” Deonna Purrazzo entered 2015 with many goals. In her second calendar year in professional wrestling, Deonna wanted to wrestle 100 matches, a near impossibility for any independent wrestler but a task all the more difficult for a female. Deonna wanted to wrestle in over thirty states.</div><div><!--break--><br />&nbsp;</div><div>By the end of the year, she had done that and more. In fact, she was instrumental in the revitalization of Women of Honor, <a href="">competing in its relaunch’s first match</a>&nbsp;in July 2015 and, while she would never tell you this, Deonna is one of the biggest reasons there is a Women of Honor Championship tournament to begin with.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Deonna became one of the division’s most notable and popular competitors, defeating stars like Candace LeRae, Sumie Sakai, Britt Baker, Karen Q. and more with her devastating Fujiwara Armbar. Deonna has even had a visual tapout of a woman that has never officially been pinned or submitted, “The Gatekeeper” Kelly Klein.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>But for Deonna, it all goes back to that match against “The Exotic Goddess” Mandy Leon, a match that launched an identity that is shared by every woman that steps into the ring. “’The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.’ It is one of my favorite quotes that, in my mind, truly defines my journey here at Ring of Honor,” Deonna told;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>She continued, “A chance was taken on Deonna Purrazzo back in July 2015 to take a first step, to rebirth Women of Honor. Over the course of the last two years, all of the Women of Honor have trekked our thousand miles and I couldn’t be any prouder to hear the announcement of the decision to crown the first EVER Women of Honor Champion. Come the end of the tournament, I will be equally as proud when the ‘Virtuosa’ becomes THE first ever Women of Honor Champion!"</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Deonna is among the favorites to become the first-ever Women of Honor Champion. But the elephant in the room is Kelly, the one competitor who Deonna has been unable to beat. Will a third time be the charm for Deonna should they meet in the tournament? Or will a skilled competitor from Women of Honor or STARDOM knock out one or both? One thing is for sure, Deonna is primed to take on all comers!</div> Mon, 22 Jan 2018 16:25:24 +0000 Chris Hall 574311 at Ticket Information Announced for ROH's Return to Lakeland, FL <div class="field field-news-photo"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/media/photos/live-events-rotor">live-events-rotor</a> </div> </div> </div> <div>After a pair of successful and newsworthy shows in Florida in November, The Best Wrestling on the Planet is returning to the Sunshine State this April!</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Ring of Honor will return to Lakeland at the RP Funding Center on Saturday, April 28 for a special ROH On Tour live event and an exclusive Meet &amp; Greet before bell time.</div><div><!--break--><br />&nbsp;</div><div>Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. Eastern for <a href="">Ringside Members</a>&nbsp;and this Friday, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. Eastern for the general public.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The last time ROH was in Lakeland, a memorable confrontation between The Briscoes and Bully Ray and Tommy Dreamer culminated in ROH COO Joe Koff stepping into the ring and booking the brutal New York City Street Fight between the two teams that took place at Final Battle in December. Heading into 2018, Lethal was the first to challenge new ROH World Champion Dalton Castle face-to-face, looking to stake his claim to a shot at becoming ROH World Champion for the second time!</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>But in between Lethal and Castle is a man who is one of the most accomplished wrestlers in the world under the age of 30, Jonathan Gresham! From her debut at Glory By Honor in October 2015 until April 2017, Kelly defeated, and sometimes destroyed, some of the very best competitors in the world, building a record-breaking 533 day undefeated streak in the process.<br />&nbsp;</div><div><!--break--></div><div>Kelly uses precision strikes to wear down her opponents and an arsenal of submissions to make them tap out, including her signature End of the Match guillotine choke. The submission secured victories over stars like ODB, Taeler Hendrix, Scarlett Bourdeaux, and dozens more. Her submission prowess was critical in her recent Goddess of STARDOM Tag Team Tournament win with Bea Priestly in Japan. While in Japan, Kelly kept a keen eye on Women of Honor.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>”Everyone managed to stay undefeated once I was out of the country,” Kelly laughed. “You could all coast by without facing a serious challenge. That’s what it took for you to win; to be able to step into the ring against anyone but me. So, now put up your handful of days against my streak. And see how impressive that really sounds. I’m back. And things are about to change for all of you,” declared Kelly.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>As of press time, Karen Q. is the only woman to ever defeat Kelly and did so by controversial count out. But Kelly has strong words for up-and-coming stars like Karen, Mandy Leon, and others. “Some of these women have accomplished so much, so quickly,” Kelly said, speaking about the competitors in the tournament before drawing a contrast to her path to reach Women of Honor. “And that is why I will beat them. Because I struggled. And I fought. And I lost. And I failed. And I kept fighting. And now I’m here. And I will not let go and I will not give up and I will not stay down.”</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>While no woman has ever pinned or submitted Kelly, Deonna Purrazzo has become one of Kelly’s greatest adversaries by pushing him to her limit. Kelly often referred to herself as the uncrowned and undoubtedly is the pick of many to become the first Women of Honor Champion.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>What drives Kelly is an unspoken confidence that was forged in the fire of a decade-plus career on the independent circuit. Kelly told ROHWrestling, “I know what it takes to persevere when the obstacles seem insurmountable. When the odds seem stacked against me. I know that I have what it takes when it hurts and when I am not the favored one. Because I feel the pain as my body and mind reach their limits and I hear what everyone says about me. Because I know what it’s like to be the one who ISN’T supposed to win. Do you?”</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Kelly left with this thought: “You all see for the first time that there is only room for one at the top. It took a championship belt for you to see it. But, I’ve seen it all along. Can you forsake your friends? Can you go it alone? The length of a tournament? But how long can you last? Me? I’ve been doing it all along.”</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Will Kelly’s dominance extend through the Women of Honor Championship tournament? Cabana has scored victories over former ROH World Champions CM Punk, Kevin Steen, Nigel McGuinness and Homicide, but he came up just short when the title was on the line. Cabana came oh-so-close to realizing his dream of winning the ROH World Title in 2006, when he took Bryan Danielson to a 60-minute draw in a two-out-of three falls match.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img alt="" src="" /></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>1. Marty Scurll, the man Lethal defeated last month at Final Battle, came down to ringside and joined Ian Riccaboni and Colt Cabana on commentary. Scurll openly rooted for Lethal. Ospreay eventually seized the momentum, as the high flyer showed his versatility by punishing Lethal with a series of hard strikes and kicks. The Essex, England native later hit a spectacular Flying Space Tiger on Lethal.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Ospreay attempted to use Lethal’s own move -- Lethal Injection -- on him, but Lethal caught him in a rack and hit a fireman’s carry slam for a near fall. Lethal went to the top rope to set up for a move, but Ospreay stopped him with a hurricanrana. He followed with a crescent kick and a variation of the Michinoku Driver for a near fall. Ospreay then landed a vicious chop to the back of Lethal’s head for another near fall.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Lethal rebounded to hit Lethal Combination. The former ROH World Champion attempted a figure-four leglock, but Ospreay caught him with an inside cradle for a near fall. Ospreay went for the OsCutter -- which was voted the 2017 Move of the Year in online voting on -- but Lethal countered with a cutter of his own. Lethal then hit Lethal Injection for the victory. Gresham said that despite his record, he believes he has mastered his unique style. He added that he’s been thinking about getting special rules instated that will help to showcase his style.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Kenny King vs. Brian Milonas</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>King hit a corkscrew dive over the top onto his much larger opponent, and then the charismatic former ROH World Television Champion took a selfie with a female fan at ringside. King continued on the offensive until Milonas raked his eyes. Milonas, who advanced to the second round of the Top Prospect Tournament last year, hit Snake Eyes and followed up with a splash into the corner. King turned the tide back in his favor with a series of jabs and a spinning heel kick that took the big man off his feet for the first time in the match. King then hit a springboard blockbuster for the win.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>As Milonas headed to the back after the match, King grabbed a microphone and congratulated him for putting up a good fight. King then called out Silas Young -- the man who took the ROH World Television Title from him in controversial fashion at Final Battle -- for a fight. Young came down to the ring and a slugfest ensued. King hit a spinning heel kick, and Young rolled out of the ring and began heading up the aisle, where he was joined by Beer City Bruiser.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Suddenly, Milonas returned and clotheslined King from behind. Young and Bruiser joined Milonas in the ring, and the three of them beat-down King. Bruiser, who said last week that he had found a new tag team partner, shook hands with Milonas.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>ROH COO Joe Koff Puts The Addiction On Notice</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The Addiction (Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian) and Scorpio Sky -- known collectively as SoCal Uncensored -- came to the ring and said that commentator Ian Riccaboni had asked them to be out there. Koff appeared on the stage and said that he was actually the one who wanted to speak with them. The ROH COO told The Addiction that they’ve been a disruption to the company and he probably should fire them right now. Kazarian threatened to kick Koff’s “corporate ass.”</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Daniels calmed down Kazarian and said there’s no way Koff is going to fire them. Daniels reminded Koff of a discussion they had when Daniels was world champion about Koff’s “grand plans to expand ROH worldwide.” Daniels said if he’s fired he could call his good friends in other companies and reveal Koff’s plans for expansion. “Remember, we know where the bodies are buried,” Daniels said. Koff said he’s already thought of that. He told The Addiction they have one year left on their contracts, and at Final Battle 2018, they’re done with ROH. That bombshell left The Addiction speechless.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>The Briscoes Are Coming For The Tag Titles</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Eight-time former ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes were outside the building in the parking lot. Mark Briscoe delivered a message to ROH World Tag Team Champions The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley), telling them it’s not personal. However, The Kingdom seized the advantage after The Boys were tagged in. Taven, Marseglia and O’Ryan did their best to keep Castle from getting back into the match, but eventually Boy No. 1 (or was it Boy No. 2?) tagged him, and the ROH World Champion ran all over The Kingdom with a flurry of offense.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Castle got Taven in position for a Tombstone Piledriver, but Taven reversed it. After five more reversals, Castle finally landed the move. Before Castle could make a cover, O’Ryan nailed him with a kick to head. The cocky O’Ryan made the mistake of turning his back on Castle to play to the crowd, however, and Castle caught him with Bang-a-Rang. Castle then turned his attention to Marseglia, who was the legal man. Castle applied his Julie Newmar submission move, and Marseglia tapped out.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Next week: The Young Bucks vs. Best Friends vs. Dragon Lee and Titan in a Triple Threat Match; Motor City Machine Guns defend the ROH World Tag Team Titles against The Dawgs.</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div> Tue, 16 Jan 2018 17:28:57 +0000 Chris Hall 571546 at
