Teams are lining up for the chance to claim gold and make history but one team has a change in their lineup.

We recently learned that Lio Rush is being sent to Europe for a month-long tour by his friend and mentor Alex Shelley. The veteran Shelley has taken an active role in helping Rush, Jay White and other younger members of the ROH roster and Shelley believes the tour will give Lio more wrestling experience and seasoning, vital to his development.

But Shelley made a call to an old friend and tag team partner to fill Rush’s spot in the Six-Man Tournament. ROHWrestling.com can confirm that KUSHIDA will team with Jay White and ACH and this trio will face The Briscoe’s and Toru Yano on Friday September 30th at “All Star Extravaganza” live on Pay-per-View.

KUSHIDA teamed with Shelley in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and “Time Splitters” are two-time former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions so Shelley knows KUSHIDA very well. On September 17th at the NJPW “Road to Destruction” event in Tokyo, KUSHIDA was beaten by BUSHI for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship and according to Shelley, KUSHIDA is anxious to get back on the winning track in the World Six-Man Tag Team Championship Tournament.
Tue, 27 Sep 2016 14:53:29 +0000 Kevin Kelly 409056 at http://www.rohwrestling.com Silas Young ROH World Champion??? http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/silas-young-roh-world-champion

Last Real Man Gets a Shot in Lakeland!

2015-09-14__00-39-57

ROH WORLD CHAMPION TO DEFEND TITLE AGAINST SILAS YOUNG ON 10/22 IN LAKELAND

Saturday, Oct. 22nd - Lakeland Civic Center - Lakeland, FL

“Pro Wrestling’s Last Real Man” Silas Young continues to prove to fans and opponents that his tough talk isn’t just bluster.

Young won the Honor Rumble in Lockport, N.Y., on Sept. 17th to earn a shot at ROH World Champion Adam Cole (or whoever the champion will be at the time) in Lakeland. Whether it is his impressive wins in singles competition in both ROH and NJPW, his tag team success with Hiroshi Tanahashi, or his signature victory in one of the all-time great ladder matches when he captured the IWGP Intercontinental Championship from Kenny Omega, “Big Mike” has proved he is among the world’s best.

And he will head to New England looking to do what he did at Ring of Honor’s very first live Pay-Per-View in June 2014: pin Adam Cole and win the ROH World Championship and the deck is seemingly stacked in “Big Mike’s” favor, a rare advantage for the challenger! Long-time ROH fans know the history between these two men: Cole won his first ROH World Championship from Elgin in a tournament final in September 2013 while Elgin defeated Cole for the championship just under a year later at Best in the World 2014. But the great equalizer may be Bullet Club, who has been known to rear their ugly heads in the most inopportune times! And on ROH television, Elgin and Tanahashi defeated Cole and Hangman Page, giving Elgin the first strike heading into the Pay-Per-View!

Both stars now have significantly more international experience under their belts and this ROH World Championship rubber match between the two has all the makings of an instant classic with both Cole and Elgin at the top of their games! At the same time some are saying that War Machine never looked better.

The two teams, who battled at the 14th Anniversary Pay Per View for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, left everything in the ring and will join the teams of Shane Taylor & Keith Lee and Colt Cabana & Dalton Castle to crown a number one contender for the ROH World Tag Team Championships at All Star Extravaganza!

Is there a hotter star in ROH than Silas Young? Young pinned Stevie Richards (8:29) following Misery. “Pro Wrestling’s Last Real Man” won the Honor Rumble last week in Lockport, an achievement that sits next to his win in Tag Wars with Beer City Bruiser and his win against ACH in a Last Man Standing Match in Baltimore. Young has a date with whomever the ROH World Champion may be in Lakeland, FL in October and shouldn’t be slept on!

Caprice Coleman was flanked by The Cabinet and submitted Delirious (9:57) with the Judgement Seat. “The Minister of Information” debuted the move against Cheeseburger in Indianapolis and continues to pick up victorious with his variation of the Camel Clutch.

In a Lucha Style Rules match, The Addiction & Kamatachi defeated Motor City Machine Guns & Jay White (17:25) when Christopher Daniels pinned Alex Shelley after Celebrity Rehab. Heading into Ladder War 6 at All Star Extravaganza, some think the Addiction are spreading themselves too thin, perhaps giving their opponents too much game tape on top of the physical exhaustion packed in their grueling schedule. But the ROH World Tag Team Champions (of the World) have positioned themselves as the Smartest Men in the Room and hope to leave Lowell ROH World Tag Team Champions and in position to make an impact in the ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championship Tournament with KAMAITACHI.

The monstrous “Punishment” Damien Martinez had BJ Whitmer by his side once again when he defeated Will Ferrara (3:49) after the South Of Heaven Chokeslam. Martinez wowed fans in the ROH Top Prospect Tournament but has become infinitely more dangerous under the tutelage of Whitmer and Kevin Sullivan. Ferrara was attempting to get revenge on Martinez and Whitmer for what they did to both he and his partner Cheeseburger in Pittsburgh but Martinez’s size and explosiveness was just too much.

2016 Top Prospect Tournament winner Lio Rush pinned Jonathan Gresham (12:37) after Rush Hour in a match that had fans in Duluth buzzing. Gresham, from nearby Atlanta, was the hometown favorite but Rush quickly won over fans with his arsenal of high flying and mat-based action.

In a rematch one year in the making, Dalton Castle with The Boys pinned Jushin Thunder Liger (10:39) following a Bangarang. Castle has said that facing Liger in Toronto in 2015 was a career highlight but that a bigger highlight would be a win over the Japanese legend. Castle, who scored the winning pinfall in the main event against Bullet Club in Pittsburgh, continued his roll and is knocking on the door of championship opportunity.

And in the main event, Jay Lethal outlasted Colt Cabana in a Ringmaster’s Challenge match.

The decisions were as follows:

Decision #1: Pinfall Only-Jay Lethal beat Colt Cabana (8:59) with an O'Connor Roll.

Decision #2: Submission Only-Colt Cabana submitted Jay Lethal (6:02) with the Billy Goats Curse.

Decision #3: 30 Minute Iron Man: Jay Lethal beat Colt Cabana 3-2 (30:00)

Lethal, coming off an impromptu victory over ROH World Champion Adam Cole in Lockport last weekend, is determined to assert himself as Ring of Honor’s top wrestler and number one contender! While Lethal maintains he has a rematch clause in his contract, he will do anything it takes to earn a shot, as well.

The Ringmaster’s Challenge was the culmination of a feud that began for the ROH World Championship and ended with respect. Cabana shocked the world in Dallas when he pinned then-ROH World Champion Lethal during Supercard of Honor weekend. After their ROH World Championship match at Global Wars was interrupted by Bullet Club, the two met again in Philadelphia for another class bout, this time won by Lethal. The two have since teamed in Baltimore and Pittsburgh but needed a rubber match to determine who the best was. In yet another back and forth battle, Lethal emerged victorious over Cabana with Cabana proving he is also among the top contenders for the ROH World Championship.

Thank you to all of the fans in Pittsburgh, Lockport, and Duluth that made the Reloaded Tour a massive success! It was a night of surprises so shocking that you’ll have to purchase the VOD on ROHWrestling.com to believe them! With ROH World Champion Adam Cole on commentary, relieving King Corino whom he dismissed to get him coffee, Silas Young and Jay Lethal entered the ring first. The ring filled before the Addiction, Machine Guns, and Young Bucks began to eliminate each other. Punishment Martinez made an immediate impact, eliminating the most entrants in the bout including a chokeslam of Beer City Brusier on to the apron!

Bull D shocked Lockport by making his Ring of Honor debut in the Honor Rumble, as did King Corino as an entrant, and local competitor Shawn Carr, who was originally slated to face Champion Adam Cole before Cole decided he was too good to face local competition, entered, as well. Punishment Martniez and Bull D brawled following their eliminations and left the original two as the eventual final two: Young and Lethal.

Young, who came within inches of victory earlier in the night, eliminated Lethal and earned a ROH World Championship shot against either Cole, Will Ospreay, or Michael Elgin depending on the winners of signed championship matches at the October 22 stop of the Road to Final Battle tour in Lakeland, FL. Lethal pointed out that Cole chose not to compete against a local competitor as originally signed. Lethal knew Cole was contractually obligated to compete in Lockport and suggested that they fight. After several minutes of declining, Cole and Lethal began to brawl and referee Todd Sinclair signaled for the bell.
