Martinez has demonstrated time after time he is a big-match fighter who seizes the moment when the lights shine the brightest.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>But will the Messiah of Pain have what it takes to beat a born fighter?</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>In Philadelphia, the 2017 Top Prospect Tournament Winner Josh “The Goods” Woods will stare straight into the eyes of a monster! The four-time All-American and former national champion amateur wrestler has knocked out, tapped out, and crossed out opponent after opponent in his rise in professional wrestling. But does he have what it takes to do the same to the monstrous Martinez?</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>At 6’7”, 260 lbs, Martinez has a decided size advantage. But with a reach advantage comes more limbs for Woods to grab and more opportunities for Woods to finish Martinez with his patented Deenda Bar! The two formed one of the most dominant teams in the world and, despite a life-threatening detour, War Machine would win the ROH World Tag Team Championships in Philadelphia at Final Battle 2015! For five months, the duo laid waste to every team in the division and teams around the globe.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Many point to the 2016 War of the Worlds Tour as the exact moment that War Machine put their names among the best teams in the world. The duo finally vanquished the one team they couldn’t beat, The Briscoes, live on Pay Per View, and defeated current IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada and Gedo the very next night. Always priding themselves as fighting champions, the battered champions answered the call again that night, putting the titles on the line against The Addiction, who lured the brave duo into tag team title trap. They lost the titles that night and they feel they never received their rightful two-on-two rematch.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>That changes in the venue they won their first ROH World Tag Team Championships.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>War Machine, who have since become two-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, just the third duo to win both the ROH and IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Titles, head to the City of Brotherly Love with a new attitude and a focus on becoming two-time champions! But, in front of them stands a question mark!</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>At Death Before Dishonor, the Motor City Machine Guns finally captured the one tag team title that has eluded them throughout their career: the ROH World Tag Team Titles. The team they beat to earn the title shot? War Machine, doing so on ROH Television in Lowell, MA. The Machine Guns took advantage of an arduous international schedule and a frustrated team to beat them. But before they even get the opportunity to face them again, they must get past the Young Bucks and the Kingdom in Pittsburgh!</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>War Machine had a visual pinfall on the Young Bucks in Columbus, defeated them in Japan, and were supposed to face the duo with the titles on the line at Best in the World before Best Friends made the match a triple threat. Meanwhile, War Machine has defeated any and all incarnations of the Kingdom they have faced in ROH. But War Machine told ROHWrestling.com that it does not matter who they face, that they will be leaving Philly with the gold!&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Who will leave the City of Brotherly Love as ROH World Tag Team Champions? <a href="https://2300arena.showare.com/ordertickets.asp?p=159&amp;src=default">Be there to find out!</a></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><a href="https://2300arena.showare.com/ordertickets.asp?p=159&amp;src=default">There is nothing like seeing the hard-hitting, fast-paced, in your face action that only ROH can deliver!&nbsp;<span style="font-size: 13px;">Don’t miss your opportunity to see ROH live in Philadelphia!</span></a></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>PHILADELPHIA EXCELLENCE – INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION TAPING&nbsp;</div><div>Local Time: Friday, Oct 20, 2017 07:30pm EDT</div><div>2300 Arena</div><div>2300 S Swanson Street</div><div>Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19148</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>ALREADY SIGNED:</div><div>ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP</div><div>ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPION KENNY KING vs. MARK BRISCOE</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>ROH WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS</div><div>ROH WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONS MOTOR CITY MACHINE GUNS (ALEX SHELLEY &amp; CHRIS SABIN) (IF CHAMPIONS) vs. WAR MACHINE (WARBEARD HANSON &amp; RAYMOND ROWE)</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>WOMEN OF HONOR</div><div>“THE VITRUOSA” DEONNA PURRAZZO vs. KAREN Q.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>SIGNED TO APPEAR:</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>ROH WORLD CHAMPION “THE AMERICAN NIGHTMARE” CODY</div><div>ROH WORLD SIX MAN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS THE HUNG BUCKS (ADAM PAGE &amp; THE YOUNG BUCKS)</div><div>“THE VILLAIN” MARTY SCURLL</div><div>JAY LETHAL</div><div>BEST FRIENDS (CHUCKIE T. &amp; BERETTA)</div><div>SILAS YOUNG &amp; BEER CITY BRUSIER</div><div>BULLY RAY</div><div>THE KINGDOM (MATT TAVEN, TK O’RYAN, &amp; VINNY MARSEGLIA)</div><div>JAY BRISCOE</div><div>“THE AERIAL ASSASSIN” WILL OSPREAY</div><div>PUNISHMENT MARTINEZ</div><div>JOSH “THE GOODS” WOODS</div><div>THE DAWGS (RHETT TITUS &amp; WILL FERRARA)</div><div>JONATHAN GRESHAM</div><div>FLIP GORDON</div><div>SHANE TAYLOR</div><div>CHEESEBURGER</div><div>COAST 2 COAST</div> Thu, 12 Oct 2017 22:50:13 +0000 Chris Hall 539271 at http://rohwrestling.com Meet and Greet Session Announced for Philadelphia Excellence http://rohwrestling.com/news/meet-and-greet-session-announced-philadelphia-excellence <div class="field field-news-photo"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/media/photos/philly-signing">philly-signing</a> </div> </div> </div> <div>On Friday, October 20th, Ring of Honor will be hosting a special meet and greet autograph session prior to PHILADELPHIA EXCELLENCE at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA! To the younger Briscoe, being the World Television Champion means you are the best wrestler on television. &nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>And that is exactly the esteem the current champion holds the title in!</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Kenny King defeated one of the hottest wrestlers in the world KUSHIDA to win the title in front of friends and family in his hometown of Las Vegas. “The Pretty Boy Pitbull” ascended to singles championship gold and is looking to take on deserving foes. I also have two brothers who played ice hockey, but girls weren’t allowed to do that, so they would play street hockey and I was allowed to play that with them. I was a tomboy growing up, and my brothers did not handle me with kid gloves at all. They were the ones who introduced me to wrestling. We would legitimately fight as kids. They didn’t see me as a girl or little sister; they just saw me as another target (laughs). I have a scar above my eyebrow from one of my brothers shoving my head into a wall. We fought really dirty.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>ROH: At what age did you become interested in pro wrestling, and when did you know it’s something you wanted to pursue as a career?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>SG: I remember seeing WWE when I was younger and kind of noticing it but not being a passionate fan. It wasn’t until - I can’t remember exactly what age I was, maybe 10 - my brother was watching TV and I walked in, and it was an ECW match between Beulah McGillicutty and Fonzie (Bill Alfonso). I just remember seeing him all bloody and I was like, “What is going on? A girl and a guy fighting - and girls can win?” My mind was blown. Since I watched that, I was hooked.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Since ECW was based in Philadelphia, me and my friend would sneak out to the ECW Arena. My parents hated it, but I didn’t care. I was in love with it. Within a couple months of going to the shows, I was like, “I have to do this. This is what I’m meant to do.” And then ECW got shut down within that year or so. I was such a fan of it and I was like, “I’ll never watch wrestling again if there’s no ECW.” Then I started hearing about ROH and CZW because they were around the area, and I started watching them. I always loved the independent scene -- just the amount of talent and athleticism and how much the fan are involved in the matches. That’s what rekindled my passion and made me realize this is what I need to do.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>ROH: How did you end up training at the ROH Dojo?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>SG: I always had it in the back of my head that I wanted to do it, but I have a strict Italian family and they’re all about the idea of women being married and pregnant. That just wasn’t a goal of mine, but I always had that pressure. When I turned 21, my father got me a 9 to 5 job at an insurance company. &nbsp; My brother - the one who introduced me to wrestling - quit his job and moved to New York to follow his dream of being a standup comedian. He just gave everything up and bet on himself, and I was like, “Why am I not following my dream? Why am I doing what other people want?” &nbsp;I just started Googling wrestling schools and the ROH Dojo showed up. When I found out it was so close to me, I knew I had to go for it. I kept my training a secret for a long time because I knew my family wouldn’t be very accepting of it, and some friends wouldn’t be either. Only about five people knew I was training until a couple months ago when I made my debut. I was basically leading a double life -- working at the insurance company during the day and at night training and weekends on the road. A lot of friends had no idea why I was so busy and out of town so much.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>ROH: What was the training like at the dojo?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>SG: It’s like boot camp. They pretty much put you through the wringer to see if you can handle it. I remember the first night just thinking how sore and tired I was and I thought about not going back. And then Will Ferrara texted me with words of encouragement. He said, “I know you’re in a lot of pain but each day it’ll get better.” It’s painful and you’re exhausted the first couple months but your body does adapt.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>ROH: How would you describe your personality and in-ring style?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>SG: I’m like the sweetheart, girl next door, but also the pissed-off bitch you don’t want to get on the wrong side of. (laughs) It just comes down to being from Philly. I’m kind of a brawler. It’s just that mode that I go into. Having trained at the dojo, I have various skill sets. I love to do hurricanranas, but my go-to moves are forearms and European uppercuts. It’s effective and I just like striking. One of my finishers is a Dragon Sleeper. It’s simple and effective. It’s all about control. &nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>ROH: Can you describe what it was like having your first Women of Honor match against Karen Q?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>SG: I wasn’t sure I was ready, but I was just like, “If they think I’m ready, I’m ready.” It was a big arena and there were a lot of people there, but you try not to let that get in your head. Karen is a great wrestler. Her kicks and strikes are very strong, and I knew I had to bring my “A” game. I just really wanted to make the dojo proud.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>ROH: What are your goals in regard to Women of Honor, both short term and long term?</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>SG: The short-term one is just to have more matches with Women of Honor. I’d love to wrestle Mandy Leon. Obviously, Deonna Purrazzo has a totally different style. Honestly, I would be ecstatic to have the opportunity to wrestle anybody on the Women of Honor roster. They’re here because they’re good at what they do. There’s no other wrestling like Ring of Honor, and Women of Honor is of the same caliber. I think all of the girls would love to have a championship belt to compete for. I think Women of Honor can set the standard for women’s wrestling, and I just want to continue to be a part of that and one day be a champion for Women of Honor.</div> Wed, 11 Oct 2017 15:00:00 +0000 Chris Hall 538406 at http://rohwrestling.com Karen Q vs Deanna Purrazzo for the First Time in WOH at Philadelphia Excellence http://rohwrestling.com/news/karen-q-vs-deanna-purrazzo-first-time-woh-philadelphia-excellence <div class="field field-news-photo"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/media/photos/philly-deonna">philly-deonna</a> </div> </div> </div> <!--break--><div>The fallout from the Global Wars tour will be felt in Philadelphia as the stars of Ring of Honor descend upon the 2300 Arena for a night of fast-paced, in-your-face action that only ROH can deliver! One of the most-heated rivalries in Women of Honor history comes to a head in the City of Brotherly Love! For the very first time in Ring of Honor, two former best friends and training partners do battle in Philly!</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>WOMEN OF HONOR</div><div>“THE VITRUOSA” DEONNA PURRAZZO vs. KAREN Q.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Karen Q. shocked the world when, in her debut match, she defeated the then-undefeated “Gatekeeper” Kelly Klein, doing something no one had ever done. Well, almost no one.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>While Kelly has still yet to officially been pinned or submitted, Deonna Purrazzo forced Kelly to tap out via her Fujiwara Armbar and the largest crowd in ROH history was there to witness it. The only person that didn’t see it was the one that mattered the most, referee Paul Turner.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>When Karen defeated Kelly, doing something her best friend and training partner never did, Deonna was the first one to congratulate Karen. And when Karen pinned Deonna in a triple threat also featuring Kelly in the main event of the third-ever Women of Honor television special, Deonna gave Karen her due.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>But with success has come a measure of paranoia for Karen. Following a victory over Stella Grey, Karen took exception to Deonna leaving the commentary table to congratulate Karen on her win and to celebrate Stella’s first match in an arena. Later that night, Karen interfered in the biggest rematch in Women of Honor history when Deonna faced Kelly and cost Deonna the match.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Things came to a boiling point between these two former best friends in Atlanta when Deonna charged the ring after being instigated from the ring by Karen, following a Karen victory. He said that Lethal beat him like a dog but he was the last man standing. Young said he proved he’s better than “The Golden Boy” and he deserves the media opportunities now.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Young noted that he and Bruiser have been wanting to find a man to team with them and go after the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Title. He said after months of looking, they couldn't find anyone manly enough -- until Death Before Dishonor. Young said they saw a man who proved he’s as real as they come, and he has accepted their invitation to team with them. Young introduced Japanese legend and NEVER Openweight Champion Minoru Suzuki. Young called out ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks and Adam Page to accept the challenge.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The Young Bucks and Page came out to the stage. Matt Jackson said they’re the best trio in the sport, and he referred to their team as “The Hung Bucks.” Page accepted the challenge and teased coming to the ring to have the match right now, but then said that they only wrestle in the main event, so they’ll see Young, Bruiser and Suzuki later tonight.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>ROH World Television Title Match: Kenny King (champion) vs. Josh Woods</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Woods earned this title shot as a result of winning the Top Prospect Tournament earlier this year. King, who won the championship from Kushida at Death Before Dishonor, matched his speed and agility against Woods’ arsenal of power moves and strikes.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>After an early stalemate, Woods eventually gained the advantage and nearly got the victory over the veteran after landing a power bomb. King recovered and went for a move off the top rope, but Woods caught him in a triangle choke. King, however, managed to shift his weight and pin Woods -- who still had the hold locked on --for the win.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>After the match, King endorsed Woods and then spoke to the crowd in Las Vegas about how important it was for him to win the title in front of his friends and family right there in his hometown. King vowed to be a fighting champion.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Shane Taylor, King’s former associate in The Rebellion, came down to ringside. Then Chuckie T appeared, and so did Punishment Martinez. Mark Briscoe also came out.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>It’s clear King has no shortage of worthy challengers.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Marty Scurll Has an Announcement</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>In a backstage segment taped earlier in the day, “The Villain” said that next week there will be a celebration as his friend ROH World Champion Cody signs the most lucrative deal in ROH history. “The Bullet Club might even cause a spot of bother,” Scurll added.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>ROH World Six Man Tag Team Title Match: The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) and Adam Page (champions) vs. Silas Young, Beer City Bruiser and Minoru Suzuki&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The challengers gained the early advantage, thanks in large part to Suzuki’s unorthodox and hard-hitting offense, but the champions rallied with a series of innovative, high-flying maneuvers.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Later, Suzuki hit a Gotch-style piledriver on Page, and Bruiser followed with a devastating splash off the top rope. It looked as if new champions were about to be crowned, but the Young Bucks made the save.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Page came back to hit a moonsault off the top rope to the outside, taking out both Young and Bruiser. Page then hit the IndyTaker onto Young on the floor before finishing off Bruiser with Rite of Passage in the ring for the victory.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>After the match, Bruiser blamed Suzuki for the loss and shoved him. That wasn’t a smart move. Suzuki decked Bruiser and then decked Young as well. Suzuki put a sleeper on Bruiser, and then he and Young engaged in a slugfest. Security hit the ring to break it up.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><strong>Jay Briscoe Speaks&nbsp;</strong></div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Briscoe said that everyone wants to know why he did what he did to Bully Ray at Death Before Dishonor, referring to the shocking incident in which he nailed his then-partner Bully Ray in the head with a table.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Before Briscoe could go any further, the legendary Tommy Dreamer came out and joined Briscoe in the ring. Dreamer talked about Bully Ray’s toughness and recounted the night he spent with him in the hospital in 2002 after Bully had been knocked unconscious in the ring. Dreamer said that brain injuries are a scary thing.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Dreamer said that after Death Before Dishonor, he once again spent the night in the hospital with his friend. Dreamer told Briscoe that he’s not here to speak for Bully Ray or fight his battles for him.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>“I’m here to let you know that you messed up,” an emotional Dreamer said as he looked Briscoe in the eye, “and I don’t know what’s going to happen.”</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>After Dreamer exited, a somber Briscoe left the ring as well.</div><div>&nbsp;</div> Wed, 11 Oct 2017 14:03:01 +0000 Chris Hall 538581 at http://rohwrestling.com Six-women Women of Honor Bout Signed for Global Wars: Pittsburgh http://rohwrestling.com/news/six-women-women-honor-bout-signed-global-wars-pittsburgh <div class="field field-news-photo"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/media/photos/pittsburgh-6woh">pittsburgh-6woh</a> </div> </div> </div> <!--break--><div>The partnership between Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro-Wrestling has never been stronger and this fall, GLOBAL WARS descends upon the US featuring stars from both great organizations!
