Having made an immediate impact upon arriving in Ring of Honor in 2016, powerhouses Shane Taylor and Keith Lee are looking to continue their path of destruction in the new year.
The massive and deceptively agile duo, who were last seen in ROH in November when they defeated arch rivals War Machine (Hanson and Ray Rowe) in a no-disqualification match in San Antonio, are signed to compete on Jan. 14 at an international television taping at Atlanta’s historic Center Stage.
It has not been announced who Taylor and Lee’s opponents will be, but there are rumblings that they have The Briscoe Brothers (Jay and Mark) in their crosshairs. The two teams are scheduled to face each other at Undisputed Legacy on Feb. 3 in San Antonio.
Targeting a team as celebrated as the eight-time former ROH World Tag Team Champion Briscoes is beyond bold, but it should comes as no surprise after seeing Taylor and Lee pick a fight with War Machine this past June.
War Machine was attempting to regain the ROH World Tag Team Title from The Addiction (Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian) in a no-disqualification bout when Taylor and Lee attacked Hanson and Rowe and cost them the match. That incident sparked one of the most brutal tag team feuds in recent memory.
It was assumed at the time that the imposing newcomers were just trying to make a name for themselves at the expense of one of the most feared tag teams in the sport, but it turned out that the attack was actually quite personal.
Taylor revealed that Rowe had been a mentor and friend to him back when he was trying to make it as a pro wrestler. However, when Rowe was signed by ROH and formed War Machine with Hanson, Taylor felt betrayed and abandoned. He vowed revenge.
Not surprisingly, Rowe saw things differently. He said he not only trained Taylor, but he also gave him a place to stay. After all that he did to help him, Rowe said Taylor was the last person he thought would attack him.
Taylor and Lee wasted no time proving that they could back up their tough talk. In their first match with War Machine in July, the upstarts defeated the more-established duo in what was then considered an upset.
A rematch a month later quickly deteriorated into a wild brawl and ended in a double disqualification. The fight continued after the bell, and it was Taylor and Lee who were left standing.
The next time the two teams were in the ring together was in September at All Star Extravaganza, where they participated in a Four Corner Survival Match for a shot at the ROH World Tag Team Title. Neither War Machine nor Taylor and Lee were victorious, as they were more concerned with destroying each other than winning the match.
War Machine finally got their hands raised over Taylor and Lee the following night in another ultra-violent bout. Once again, however, Taylor and Lee laid out War Machine afterward and then went on to beat them in their final meeting of 2016 on Nov. 4 in San Antonio.
The night before, in Arlington, Texas, Taylor and Lee squared off with The Briscoes for the first time, as the teams competed in a three-way match along with War Machine. The Briscoes came out on top that night, but Taylor and Lee certainly have proved to be resilient and relentless.
If The Briscoes need any convincing, all they have to do is ask Hanson and Rowe.
