Roderick Strong, BJ Whitmer, and Jimmy Jacobs are three men who have a long history with each other - and an even longer history with Ring of Honor. They've watched others come and go while they remained loyal to ROH. They are the "old guard," the "vets." But recently, the influx of young athletes trying to make it in ROH have been some of the most talented, ambitious, and hungriest ever. To Strong, Whitmer, and Jacobs, hunger and ambition lead to disrespect.
So at Final Battle, the three ROH veterans revealed their alliance and christened themselves The Decade. They have always claimed their goal is to restore honor and tradition to ROH - values they adhered to while they made their climb through the ranks of pro wrestling and values the current generation spitefully ignores. The Decade has targeted a particular group of young athletes as the most "disrespectful." Some, such as Adam Page and Tadarius Thomas, have been broken by The Decade and joined the group as young boys. But others continue to fight what they see as self serving, paranoid bullying.
Cedric Alexander has been the leader in this movement against The Decade. He and Roderick Strong have developed a personal rivalry over what Strong claims is Alexander's blatant disrespect of him and the traditions of pro wrestling. To taunt him, Cedric has employed several of Roderick Strong's signature wrestling moves, including his finishing move, and that is traditionally a huge breach of wrestling etiquette.
But is The Decade REALLY protecting Ring of Honor...or are they just protecting themselves?
When he was a young, upcoming star - much like Cedric Alexander - Roderick Strong and his companions in Generation Next absolutely epitomized ambition and disrespect. They knew they were the most exciting, freshest athletes in pro wrestling - and they were going to steal as much of the spotlight as possible to prove it. Without Generation Next, we would likely not have a Roderick Strong - ROH legend and Triple Crown Champion - in Ring of Honor today. Does The Decade see the same sort of exciting new talent eclipsing them right now and are determined to run them out of ROH before that happens? Cedric Alexander certainly thinks so.
At Supercard of Honor, Roderick Strong defeated Cedric in a one-on-one match - but anyone watching could see the presence and interference of his fellow Decade members was integral to the victory. In light of that, a rematch has been signed! At GLOBAL WARS, Roderick Strong and Cedric Alexander will once again lock horns...but The Decade is BANNED from ringside!
In Toronto on May 10th, we will finally see a fair contest between Strong and Alexander. A
Alexander took his opponent to the limit and nearly beat the vet in New Orleans. This would be the biggest win of his entire career and prove he's ready to be the best in Ring of Honor.
