I was not bitter toward the guy like a lot of people on this board. I certainly would not be one of the ones chanting "F you Lynn", but I wasn't really a fan either.

I was biased. I was prejudiced. I was wrong.

The truth is I felt like one of the younger guys deserved the belt more. I thought that he would not be capable of going move for move with guys like Black, Dragon, etc. I was wrong.

He may not be as hip as guys like Hero, but he is capable of putting on a hell of a match if you aren't so predisposed to hate on the guy.

At the end of the night, I was tired. I was debating in my head if I should leave early or stay through the main event on the off chance there was a title switch. The people in front of me chose to leave. I chose to stay. I was right.

This was an excellent match and as good as any match that Nigel, Gibson, Homicide, or Morishima had in their title run. I just had to allow myself to see it and not judge it on anything other than its own merits.

There is a part of me that wants to say the reason the match was good was because Strong carried it and to be honest he put on a hell of a match, but it takes two people to make a match great. Jerry gave 110% and he held his own against one of the best young stars in this business. He took some nasty bumps and took one of the loudest chest chops I have ever heard. He gave as good as he got and if it was a "trendy" guy like Black who had wrestled the exact same match move for move as Lynn did people would be on here saying MOTY candidate.

This is what I have concluded, for some people no matter what Lynn does he is never going to be over. That is fine. It is a free country and you can like who ever you want to like, but to say the guy can't have a great match is an outright lie . . . I know because I just saw him have one.

Thank you Mr. Lynn and Mr. Strong.

Thank you for posting this. I have seen so much hate for a champ that has not even had an opportunity to earn his keep and after tonight it makes me sick. Yes, Roddy busted his butt to make that match awesome and one of the only highlights on an otherwise BLAH show. But as you said, it takes two and Lynn not only held up his end of the deal but made anyone who booed him feel downright guilty. And, just when everyone thought the champ would go heel this weekend, to see Mr JL go pure face at the end was fantastic in my opinion.

Yeah, I just got back and that was definitely the best Lynn performance I've seen in some time. Strong kinda made the match with the ungodly guardrail bump and all, but Lynn took Strong's offense quite well and did nothing bad. Definitely a great title match.

It is going to be interesting to see how revisionist write up the reviews of this show. I have already noticed on the results thread where people were trying to say that Black vs Richards was the match of the night. It was a good match and it may be some people's favorite, but if you were to have had a meter in the arena that measures fan reaction the Lynn vs Strong match was so much more over than any other match on the card at the time it was happening that it is no contest. However, I bet when all is said and done the voices of the haters will be louder than what actually happened. I was there. I heard and saw the crowd on edge of their seats during the awesome last 5 minutes of that match with a lot of sic moves and near falls.

I don't see how, I'm obviously not a fan of Lynn at all but that match kicked ass. Black-Richards was great too but felt more like a normal great match than everything just coming together perfectly like it did in Lynn vs. Strong.

This is what was said on the results thread

"Match of the night "by far" was Tyler Black vs. Davey Richards. Danielson/Edwards was also said to be really fun."

Then someone else corrected with the truth

"Roderick/Lynn got the most fan reaction "by far"

That said, the action was very good in the Main Event and I personally think from a reaction standpoint it outshined Black/Davey "by far." Richards and Tyler had a very good match, and I love both men, but for some reason Dayton wasn't into it that much."

That is the kind of stuff I don't understand. While someone may LOVE Black and Richards and may have loved that match, but to call it the match of the night "by far" with no thought given to the main event is just stupid.

Didn't the guy who called Black/Richards match of the night by far say that before the main event happened? I could swear it was an obvious implication that it was only match of the night thus far.

That may be true, I don't know as I read the whole thread after the event. If what you say is true then that would explain it, otherwise it makes no kind of sense. Even then, I think the Hero/Cabana match was as good as that match, so to say "by far" is still a matter of perspective I guess.

At any rate, Lynn had a quality match and won me over. I will not prejudge the guy because of his age anymore.

I'll say this: I've been against Lynn from day one of his title reign. He's not over....there's like 5 faces more over than he is. He's not one of the best wrestlers in the company: I can easily name 5 better. Since Joe, the Champion has ALWAYS been both of these things, and I don't like the idea of having a champ who is neither.

All that said, tonight's match was great. It was incredible. My opinion has changed: I want him to succeed.

Here's why:
1. The match was great....Davey/Tyler did NOT hold back, and Jerry STILL topped it.
2. He put Roddy over BIG time
3. his post-match speech was perfect.

THIS is how you win fans over to a face.

Here's my only concern: Lynn had the best match of his ROH return tonight. Can he do this every night? I'm not sure. The guy needs to have EXCELLENT matches night after night: his reign needs to have main events to hang his legacy on. Our past champions did this, and if Jerry is gonna prove himself, he has to as well. This kind of match needs to be a rule, not an exception, for him to prove me wrong.

But I'll say this: I didn't believe he could do it before tonight. I'm still not sure he will do it....but now I know he has it in him.

Jerry made a (hesitant) fan out of me tonight.

I've never been a hater of Lynn. I didn't think he was the best choice for champion, but he'll do the job well until they work out who's going to carry the company in the second half of 2009.

Great that he's winning some fans over, but I don't think he should have been made champion and don't understand what he has to management to give him the nod over many guys in the locker room. Oh well here's hoping he drops it to someone in a good way.

***starts a slow clap***

Not to many people nowadays can admit this, congratulations. I kind of wish I went now. Had front row seats but decided to stay and work instead.

Glad everyone is actually giving him a chance :-)

**Speeding the clap slowly**

I am interested to see what tonight brings. Lynn-Cabana could be great or could flop, I'm not sure what to think.
