I mentioned this briefly in another recent thread, but I'm not sure it recieved much, if any, recognition. With the recent storyline involving Jerry Lynn and the parallels of his career with events and themes in the movie "The Wrestler" being further expanded upon in interviews in recent videowires, I think it's only fitting that the journey this storyline takes Jerry Lynn is to a rematch exactly 10 years in the making.
On 3/21/99, Jerry Lynn had his first match-up with Rob Van Dam for the ECW TV Title on PPV. If you would poll wrestling fans regarding Jerry Lynn's career, everyone would almost unanimously agree that Rob Van Dam has been Jerry Lynn's career defining opponent. Taking that one step further, if you had to pick one match out of Jerry Lynn's entire career, you can make a very impressive argument that their first encounter on PPV at ECW Living Dangerously on 3/21/99 was his career defining match.
Fast forward 10 years to 3/21/09. On this day, ROH returns to the illustrious Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. RVD and Jerry Lynn had the greatest rivalry based on the spirit of athletic competition in ECW's history. The last "real" match between the two occured as the main event of ECW's last ever PPV in 2001. The location? The Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC!
In the movie, "The Wrestler", Randy "The Ram" Robinson takes on his career defining opponent on the 20th anniversary of his career defining match in New York City. Jerry Lynn has mentioned several times in recent interviews how much the movie has made an impact on him and how he can eerily notice similaries between his own life and career and that of "The Ram". What would be more fitting than for Jerry Lynn to take his own walk down destiny's path and have a rematch of his own career defining match with RVD exactly 10 years to the day at the very location of their very last match together in ECW?
Thus, this is my attempt to garner fan support for such an amazingly historic match-up to take place as the main event of ROH's return to the Hammerstein Ballroom on 3/21/09. The facts that RVD is currently a FA, ROH already has a show booked at the Hammerstein Ballroom on that exact day, and Jerry Lynn is walking down a career path eerily similar to Randy "The Ram" cannot be just a series of crazy coincidences. Please, ROH, make this match happen! If you have a desire, as I do, to witness such a historic rematch happen inside a ROH ring sign below. |

You make excellent points, and I see absolutely no reason this shouldn't happen unless RVD has no interest. I think this match puts more asses in seats for sure and while I personally think their entire series is on the overrated side, enough fans will be interested (including me) to make this a worthwhile cause.

| Good call on the dates. As markish as this may be, I'd be ALL about this match happening in ROH. |

Heck to the yeah on this one! Of course, there's no clue about RVD's interest in deals like these but it would be glorious.

Would probably lead to a legit Hammerstein sellout.
Don't know if it's possible, but it's a very well researched and presented proposal. |

| This is cool about the dates but they should put this match in Houston. NY shows always draw BIG. However, I think this could really boost things for the Houston weekend. |

It'd have way more "meaning" if it were run in the Hammerstein.
I'd absolutely love to see them hook it up again. Who wouldn't? It could be booked as Lynn's last hurdle before getting his title shot. I think there'd be some compelling drama there. |

Said it in the last thread and I'll say it again. YES! This would be so awesome but I'm not too sure if it'll happen.
Is RVD really considered a FA? Don't really remember if he was still under contract or any sort of agreement after the Rumble and the RAW Anniversary Special appearances. |

| It was a one-off. He's very much a free agent. His contract expired. |

| Yes, this would be epic! ROH could promote the hell out of this match and once word got it, I know it would be a sellout for sure. Their fued was one of my favorites because it wasn't about having a "I hate you, you hate me" storyline, it was just about having a great series of matches. |
