My third ever ROH show, all of which were in Dayton. This one was a whole lot of fun. The matches were great, the crowd...........not so much. This was a huge crowd for Dayton, but a lot of dumb fans spoiled the evening. More to come later.

We got there right at 8, and as we did, Skyfire and Claudio were getting ready to start.........so I don't think there were any dark matches. We had General Admission seats, and there wasn't room in the bleachers! thats how packed it was. (and, possibly, how late we were) We stood the whole night........but no complaints.

Skyfire looked really good, got his offense in, and really kept up with Claudio on the mat. It was, of course, Claudio's match, but easily exceeded expectations, considering we expected it to be completely one-sided. Claudio wins with the Ricola bomb.........crowd loved every second.

I go to the merch table to ask where Nigel is, considering I can't find him. The guy running it says he doesn't know if Nigel is going to show up........in hindsight, I wonder if he was lying to me.

I also found out the return date is January 25......eight weeks away. Wow, thats not much time.

Second match was Pearce/Delirious falls count anywhere. This was pretty good for what it was. These two never were actually in the ring. Wow, has Delirious' beard gotten long. The two fight through the crowd, and all me and my friends can think is WOW the chair shots to the back are stiff. It is to the point where Delirious' back in bleeding. Pearce's interaction with the crowd is awesome. Eventually, they start climbing the scaffolding for the lighting. The best part was seeing the poor light operator, at the top of the scaffold FREAKING out as they climb up, telling them to get off. Delirious ended up weaving Pearce through bars of the scaffold, and locking in the Cobra clutch, making Pearce tap. Fun brawl, but this will suck on DVD.

Third match was Hero against Jigsaw. WOW was SNS hilarious. Jigsaw really got the crowd behind him. Hero basically spent the first 7 minutes stalling and showing off with kneewalks and unnecessary moonsaults. (the usual) Jigsaw just stood back shocked at the ridiculousness. hilarious stuff. Once the match actually got going, Jigsaw showed the crowd every possible way to do an armdrag. Match was, once again, much more competitive than expected. Not gonna lie: I actually was thinking upset several times. Hero eventually did win With a WEIRD new Sitout Cravate breaker and submission. Cant make a move like this up: you gotta see it. Good match, and SNS made it even better.

I see Gabe Sapolsky walking to the march table, I thank him for all he does.

Danielson vs. Necro was..........different, especially for Dragon. Necro came out and pulled up ALL the mats, so all spots on the floor will be on the wood/concrete. I mark out for Dragon......hes my fav! Nice little brawl. They spent a LONG time on the outside....a very long time. They get in the ring and have some ok spots with a chair. Eventually, Dragon hits a sick little back suplex on to the chair, and Necro was on the defensive from there. Dragon wins with Cattle Mutilation: cant tell if Necro tapped or passed out. If he tapped........thats awkward to me. Isn't he supposed to be triple tough? Necro was SLOW to recover after words, and since the match felt so short, I'm thinking he may have called for the ending, and his arm seemed to be bothering him. Not a bad match, but I wanted more.

Prazac is introduced, and hypes the crowd for the PPV taping. NRC comes out and the crowd hates them. Briscoes are over big time. The match was very solid, and very different from your normal Briscoes match in that you didn't have the usual dueling workover period before the breakdown. They worked over Rocky a little, then a breakdown. Then some back and forth tags, then ANOTHER breakdown. Davey was awesome tonight ,hitting everything, getting heat, and just coming off awesome. Again, they fooled me: I thought NRC had it. Rocky hit the Diablo Armbar just as Davey cleared the other Briscoe from the ring, and I thought: a big submission, and hes got a guard....this is it. But of course, Jay made it to the ropes, and The briscoes hit a NOISY doomsday for the win. This was a good match that will look good on the PPV. Probably match of the night.......depending on if you liked the Ironman ending and a spotfest main event.

Intermission: Nigel is signing autographs! We found him! I congratulate him for the title win and mark out as I get a picture, and have him autograph a SWEET poster. And then I realize.......wait, he's in his wrestling gear. Why is he in wrestling gear for an autograph session?

Jimmy Yang is in the building! Cool guy, I said hello.

I return to our 'seats'....aka, the place in the corner where we are standing, and tell them my concerns.

Silas Young is introduced.........delayed dark match? NIGEL'S MUSIC HITS! My dad marks out, he loves Nigel! Nigel and Silas have a short match, but WOW did Silas make a good impression. Nigel hits all his big ones and wins with a new keylock/camel submission. Interesting new move.

Nigel gives a speech about how great Silas Young is, and wants to see more of him soon. (not good Silas, he said this about Walters last year and we haven't seen him since!) Nigel says he loves Dayton, and wanted to give us a match. How cool of him: he didnt need to perform tonight, and it meant a lot that he respected us enough to do so.

Nigel is interrupted by SNS. AWESOME promo by Sweeney, as Hero wants a title match. It was strange, but I THINK they announced Hero vs. Nigel for the World Title next Dayton show. Now sure, because it was kinda confusing. SNS argues over which members get to attack Nigel, it ends up being Tank and Bobby: Nigel owns them until Hero gets involved with a cheap shot. They set Nigel up for an armbreaker with a chair before CLAUDIO makes the save. Nice series of promos, good little setup, Nigel's match was an awesome surprise.

Tornado's music hits and the crowd loves him. Stevens comes out, and grabs the mic...saying he wants Davey Richards tonight. Richards comes out AGAIN! Richards and Stevens brawl, and they make it a three-way!

I see Gabe walking back to the merch table, I pull him aside and say: this was a good idea. He agrees!

Stevens and Tornado team up........and Tornado starts being hilarious, so many funny little lines and spots during the team up. He was just goofing off and it was hilarious. The match itself was good, considering it was mostly just funny gag after funny gag. Richards got hit with a stiff lariat, and his nose is bleeding. Ending came when Richards fought them both off, locked in his keylock submission, and made tornado tap QUICK. Richards was awesome in this, but Tornado made everyone love him. He was just......so.......funny! For Stevens, not a very great or impressive return.

Aries vs. Strong was very very good......the crowd hurt it a lot though. They just did NOT get into this match. My friend and I were loving the back and forth, but the crowd just did not support it. They make it to the 15 minute mark with goose-eggs, and its looking good. Aries nails a SICK kick to the head and hits his submission for a first fall. Not long after, Aries reverses a Stronghold attempt for a second. Crowd is QUIET, and it sucks, cuz this is fun. Roderick gets frustrated and hits like 3 backbreakers and a Gibson driver for a fall, and then follows with a Stronghold for a second. Soon after, Aries is fighting back, and goes for the four fifty, but Strong gets the knees up and Aries looks DEAD. Strong gets a third fall. Then, it gets INCREDIBLE. Strong locks in another Stronghold, and Aries pulls to the ropes, but Strong WONT LET GO. Sinclair wont award Aries a fall for something like a DQ, so Aries pulls them BOTH out, under the bottom rope, to the floor. Strong then REAPLLIES the stronghold on the floor. Aries is HURTING! Strong then rolls in the ring. Of course, there are no countouts. Aries keeps trying to get in the ring, and Strong just knocks him down. Once, Aries hits the guardrail hard, and is down a long time. Strong is trying to win by not letting Aries back in the ring. So, you would think the crowd is going nuts for Aries to get in the ring, and try to even it up..........nope, they are quiet, not digging ANY of Aries awesome attempts. Aries eventually flurries his way in, and hits a BIG LOUD AWESOME kick, locking in his submission and tying it up with a minute to go. Then the locks it in again, and as time runs out, Sinclair delares that Rodercik has passed out, giving the win to Aries. Many booed the ending, I loved it! Again, this match would have been great, except the crowd just killed it. Some moron in the back comparing Roderick to Hardcore Holly and Khali didn't help, either.

So many fans think they are funny. None of these fans were. I'm all for fan interaction: but only if you are clever, and aren't ruining the match like these guys did tonight. This was a good match, and the crowd got killed, in large part because of these clowns.

Main event..........wow. FLASHBANG! Vulture Squad enter, and get jumped by the Hangmen. It was so cool to see Jack and Ruckus hit the same, seemingly impossible stunts, in unison. These two are FUN. AOTF jump the guardrail.......Tyler Black is tall. Lacey is........wow! Briscoes come out with Daizee Haze...........since when is she with them? weird. Ok, so Basically, everyone goes insane. Team after team gets short advantages, hitting cool spots, and then losing control to another team. I thought Whitmer would stink up the place, but he was so much fun........so fast, and stiff! Albright dropped EVERYONE on their necks. Honestly, everyone hit their stuff, everyone looked great. The Briscoes, shockingly enough, didn't get as much control as others, which I think is great for the other three teams. Tyler Black kicks hard and flies well. I finally got to see his Paroxysm move...very nice. I would give more details, but I cant do this match justice. Let me just say everyone shined, no one was left out, everyone left this match looking good enough to stand up to the Briscoes. Vulture Quad win When Evans hits a 630. Don't remember who he pinned, but it wasn't a Briscoe. If you hate spotfests, just dont watch this, cuz its nothing but spots. I actually do hate spotfests in general, but this one was logical, with TEAMS gaining advantage rather than individuals. Perfect way to end the night.

I attended FYF:Dayton, United we stand, and This show, and this was the best quality show. Everything but Pearce/Delirious and Nigel's match was prolly over three stars. The Ironman would have been four easily if the crowd didn't kill this. Maybe the match will be good on DVD...I hope so. I love that ROH got such a big crowd, but of course, bigger crowd mean more room for jesters. MVP goes to Davey Richards....which I cant even believe Im saying. Both of Richards' matches were very good: his moves were clean, and stiff, and good. His selling was on another level, and he really made both matches he was in. In all honesty, Davey deserves a whole lot of attention for his efforts tonight.

I didn't mind standing through the show......chairs would have been nice, but we had fun. There was not one, standout, MOTYC match, but it was solid and fun all the way through. A great time, and I really appreciate ROH. I'll be buying this one on DVD: and that actually says something from me.

I had a great time. Thank you to everyone involved.

Aries/Strong wasn't very good IMO. It was very slow and boring. Strong is boring period. Plus it had no heat at all really. The entire feud between them sucked from day one.

There were 2 pre-show matches that you missed. A 6-man tag and Rhett Titus vs Dingo. It's a shame that you missed out on Rhettski the Jettski.

I agree that the crowd hurt the Aries/Strong match. There were some slow parts, but I really enjoyed the ending of it with Strong trying to keep Aries on the outside to kill time while he was in the lead.

Overall it was a great show. Unfortunately it seemed that Ruckus and Human Tornado were both injured tonight.

I thought Aries/Strong was good, but not really that great. Those two just don't mesh at the level you think they would. Plus after a night of crazy crowd brawls, PPV popping, high-flying, Hero-bashing, Heyyyying and Human Tornado, the methodical techinal match just didn't have a chance in hell of getting the crowd into it.

There are always plenty of chairs around. Most of the Dayton crowd, myself included, seem to like a more bird's eye view of the happenings, so we pack the bleachers and the floor seats don't usually sell that well past the fourth row. They actually had to bust out the spare bleachers in Section D before the show started because they were so packed.

Wow! Why am I not surprised? I have read other posts that say this match sucked "monkey chunks" but now I see, what i feel is a REAl wrestling fans view of the match. Let me tell you, when I watched the first match of the Best of 3, Dragon/Aries matches in Boston in October. I was completly blown away and was wondering why the crowd was not in awe like I was. I was wondering why I had some kid next to me saying "This is ****ing boring" while I was trying with everything I had to stay in my seat! There is a dichotomy going on in wrestling today that says everything has to run at 120 mph and if not it is "boring" and "sucks". So when 2 guys go out and display immense amounts of technical skill, and what is really an "art form" we have to deal with ignorant fans who only want to see high flying or straight out violence (please dont misunderstand me, both of these are great parts of the "art", but this isnt all there is! The Briscoes are probably my fave tag team ever in my life, but i would also like them to be around for as long as possible. I understand they make their choices, but as long as fans are silent or dissrespectful to technical matches we will get less and less of them. I thought the T shirt said "Real pro wrestling for real pro wrestling fans" ? I hope we never loose these type of matches.
Anyone else who was there care to comment on this match. Did it really "suck" or was it the fact they were not using tables, weapons, and shooting star presses that killed it?

I am the man who said "Monkey Chunks" and as far as a REAL fan, I have been going to shows since 1978 way before tables and weapons were are part of the show. So who are you to question me and what kind of fan I am? Please Google the word OPINION and see what it means before opening your Smark Mark mouth and acting like some Road Agent for the E.

I don't get why people **** on the ironman match, that was intriguing until the awkward finish. People should get on SkyFire for failing to make an impression and Claudio for walking through a match like he did.
